Brill pictures and super reading...that's what this message board ought to be all about. Amazing pics of the high jump...takes my breath away at how the dogs are able to do it. Does anyone have any videos out there of dogs competing at the high jump...wouldn't mind a copy of one just to see how it's done. You are spoilt for choice in the mainland with all the lurchers events that are run at the shows.
Got a video somewhere in the house, and when I find it I will pm you for your address, and send it you.All I ask is for you to return it,don't mind you making a copy of it

Sorry if It looks like I'm blowing my own trumpet, but I'm proud of my dogs achievements over the years.I'm trying not to be self centred, thats why there are other winning dogs on here, and I take my hat off to them. They must be as proud as me :D

This is another dog I bred ,out of Midge(Sonny Jim),and a whippet /greyhound/deerhound called Spud.Lost on Saturday,no excuses, but made up for it on sunday :D

You're right Darren the high jump was amazing, and the lads from Cornwall certainly knew how to bring the best jump out of their dogs.My first memories of Chatsworth were this brilliant event. :D

I know you cant turn the clock back, but i've really enjoyed looking at all the photos, and even though my memory leaves alot to be desired,I remembered all the dogs and I tell you what Geoff nostalgia is a good thing. The past is well worth visiting once in a while

Brilliant thread Geoff  Probably took a fair bit of effort digging everything out and scanning it, thanks for sharing, I hope others add to it.

Those high jump pictures are amazing!! I've got to see this event one day.

With all this nostalgia about dogs we've had in the past, I've looked through my photo album and found these two photographs of a first cross collie greyhound called Jess I owned in the early 1970's. I purchased him for the grand sum of £3, and he turned into the best working dog I personally have ever seen! His reputation for catching rabbits was second to none, he also caught a few hares in his time, including 3 in one day as you can see in the photos. Mike

Geoff, that would be super with regards to the video and i promise i'll return it back...thanks.

Keep those photo's coming along with the reports as it's excellent viewing and i'm sure inspiring for those to get their dogs in good condition for the lurcher showing season.

Come on Mike lets see a picture of you in the 70s :- " :D Karen

Here's a picture of Storm, a deerhound greyhound cross whippet greyhound who won the straight racing and the hurdles on the Sunday at Chatsworth in 2000 the last time I attend at this show. He also won the hurdles on the Saturday. Retired him at 6years old after a very successful few years competing... he now lives with a family who take him on lots of camping holidays to Dartmoor as well as jogging everyday! Im sure he's very happy in his retirement :)

This photo was taken at North Tuddenham in Norfolk in the early 80s, Vicky was bred by me, her dam was Kep a collie greyhound x deerhound greyhound and her sire was Ged a greyhound saluki x greyhound bedlington now this bitch could do the job, but this day we were relaxing at a lurcher show in Norfolk  met and made some really nice friends from this part of the country

Under starters orders, on your marks, get set, GO!

This photo was taken at our lurcher club in the 80s, it was one of the biggest lurcher clubs in the country, the Bolsover Working Lurcher Club. My racing victories got me the nick name the 'Beast of Bolsover' :D after the MP 'Dennis Skinner' one of the Clay Cross rebels who refused to pay their poll tax or was it their council rates  Anyway more about the lads & lasses who helped me run this club later.

This picture brought back some happy memories, and also brought a tear to my eye :( the old fellow second one back in the picture is that great character Spoff who lived at Breedon on the Hill near the East midland airport. Now Spoff was a wealth of knowledge regarding running dogs and we both shared a love of whippet crosses, you could bet that when I had him to our lurcher shows to judge the lurchers there would a big turn out  This man judged the dogs ,not their owners  Also another lurcher judge who came to our show was my good mate Mr John Bromley the famous coursing greyhound trainer

I believe the Litchfield show hold a lurcher class in memory of Spoff :D ,a fitting tribute!! Thankyou Alison & Chris

Really enjoying looking at all the pics and tales from the past - only problem is i'm not getting anywork done at home or work :- " Right got to sort out our dogs or be late for Maltby  i'll be back on later to catchup :))
