It looked like it was going to be sunny today, so we set off for a walk. The sun promptly disappeared and we were left with a very cold day. Still, all was not lost.......I managed a few photos, and finally succeeded in getting a photo of a bird that i've been trying to snap for ages!!! All will be revealed :- "

Firstly...the walk up to the gritstone edges....

The classic Peak District shots...(I should have worn a long skirt :- " :p )

Fred looking a bit cold....(he refused to wear his coat, he rubbed it in all the mud until it was upside down and almost inside out, so it was his own fault! )

CurbarFeb08030copy.jpg

A walk back along the river meadows....I liked the reflection on this one.

I was messing about with my camera trying to get some photos of the flora & wildlife in the woods next to the river (without much success)...:

An escaped Muscovy duck....

..and then my luck was in. Look what landed on a branch right in front of me. It wasn't in the least bit shy :huggles:

Of course, with all this hanging about Fred started to get cold again, and showed off his fine frame in all its glory  (he really isn't that skinny, he just makes himself look like a bag of bones when he gets cold :b )

Here's one of him a week earlier being walked by my nephew (just to show him in a better light!).

Excuse the chap in the background...why do blokes always stand like that :- "

Great pics - poor Fred :huggles:

Very sweet pics of the Robin too

great pic's nicola, the secong and third ones are amazing

Wow Nicola those shots on the rocks are very impressive.. (w00t) I dont think I would have stood there... :- " they are really good....

and I just love the Robin shot... how lovely it is.

Your nephew looks a lovely little boy too, what great pictures.

Thanks for your comments. The Gritstone Edges aren't as precarious as they look...honest :- " Only if you're climbing them :) Fred and Stan are used to our high level walks and know where the edge of the rocks and plateaus are, in fact they don't get let off lead near them.

Janis, I can't tell you how pleased I was to get a photo of that robin. I've been trying for weeks to capture a shot of one that keeps landing near our front window, with no sucess. Then out of the blue, when I was least expecting it, this robin landed on a some bushy trees about two meters from me, and stayed there just watching me. I had my camera in my hand because I was taking some photos anyway.....such good luck.

I love my little nephew...he's such a special little chap (well I would say that wouldn't I?), and he loves Fred. He just loves to cuddle him.

Poor Fred :( Whippets can shake for England when they're cold, can't they

We have alot of similar rock piles (Tors) on Dartmoor - very slippery when wet (w00t) I suppose they are formed from volcanic activity? I often marvel at the way they have evolved to the shapes they take

Love the pics of the robin :D We have one who comes into the big porch we have at the back of the house to eat the stash of bird food I keep to replenish the feeders - clever little chap!!

They do have some fabulous shapes don't they? :D

The gritsone here is actually very gritty as the name suggests and not at all slippy, not even in the wet. Climbers flock to the Peaks as they love the gritstone for bouldering and climbing on, mainly because it affords such good grip to hands and feet.

I'm not sure how it has evolved really. I know the soil and limestone around them has been weathered away, but the gritstone remains as it is so hardwearing. I think the edges themselves have been quarried using the old millstones, made from gritstone.

Robins can be quite friendly can't they? This one certainly was!

Great photos :D ........ You have such lovely countryside round you

What fantastic pictures

and that robin  beautiful, they arent that shy really ,i had one once that would come on my finger to have some seeds, and that was a high point in my life, such a tiny little bird and so trusting :huggles:

fantastic photos as always . poor fred does look a little chilly (w00t)

Brilliant photos, as always, Nicola.  I really love the bridge/reflection photo, and the Robin is delightful.

Poor Fred - he really is demonstrating very well the typical whippet "I'm so cold" look. :- " Hope he warmed up when you got home. :huggles:

poor Fred looks like he's sucking himself in to keep warm !

I like Stan hiding behind the tree but OMG (w00t) how can you stand on the edge of those rocks, makes me feel ill just thinking about it :(

Your nephew really loves Fred doesn't he

the robin photos are brilliant, well worth waiting for

They're really good photos Nicola, especially the robin ones. I don't think I'd want to get so close to the edge of those rocks either, not with Jonah in tow! :sweating: Poor Fred looks really cold. Muffin always takes up that hunched stance in the wind - he hates it. Jonah couldn't care less - I think he would happily go out in all weathers! :- "

Gorgeous photos - what lovely countryside to walk in.

The peak that you are standing on looks very much like a shot from Pride & Prejudice (watched it last night) is that why you said you should be in a long dress?

fffffffFred does the fffffffreezing whippet very well.

As for the bloke in the shot well I had to double check that it wasn't my husband but no - he is still here in Oz. Don't know why blokes stand like that - universal blokiness I guess

Yes....I love that shot of Keira Knightly stood on that rock, loving over the Peak.

fffffffFred does the fffffffreezing whippet very well. :D He certainly does. He's a bit knobbly spined and banana backed anyway, so when he gets cold...he looks a real skinny sack of bones. He wouldn't wear his coat, so he he had to put up with the odd bit of standing around getting cold. He sooned warmed up when were back on the move again...he's tough as old boots really

Thank you for your lovely comments about the bridge shot. :teehee: That was my favourite landscapey shot too (I can't take the credit for the rock shots as my OH took those :p ) and was pleased with how it came out :) It's so rewarding to get nice comments :huggles:
