If love alone could get your pet better I'm sure Jill would've recovered by now, I know how much you love her, lets hope the medicine change is just what she needs, then she can start eating and fattening up again, poor girl must be feeling so sorry for herself.big licks and  :huggles: from little sister Ella

Well julie and the rest of you whats seen pics of my dog, if u was to see her now you would be appalled as i am, shes nowt but spine and ribs, ok she took a little food this morning. wouldnt keep a rat alive, then outside she went, cud just manage that, had a poo which run from her, and what looked to me like blood in it,i have to rub her constantley just to keep her warm, she constantley stares at me, i pick her up theres nowt of her, ive done nowt these past few days but nurse her, keeping her warm, trying to get drink in her, 3 am she had me up wanting a poo, i dunno were its coming from cos her aint eating nowt, like i say i took my dog in cos of head shaking, and now u can see every rib real prominent and im upset and annoyed.

Hi Keith,Poor jill I really feel for you both, :( I was hoping she was on the mend.Does the vet think its the meds that made her ill or is there a possible underlying cause? Also has she had a booster jab recently?

 claire

Well claire no sooner had i posted about jill, when my phone rang i dont normally answer the bugger cos its normaly salesmen but it was my vet enquiring about her so i told them, actually it was his secretary, so my 10 15 am appointment for tomorrow is now 8 30, now then and i dont mean to be rude here, but i couldnt give a monkies as to whether he thinks its the meds thats made her like she is, ive told him that it is the meds, and he said to me, well mr xxxxxx, we have to try these things, and thats why untill jill is back on her feet he will not charge me for treatment, so really he cant be any fairer than that i suppose, apart from shaking her head and scratching her ears, she was a fine looking hound, but not anymore.

thanks

keith

Hope all goes well for you and Jill tomorrow Keith, hopefully he will be able to tell you how a fit healthy dog can deteriate so quickly, and give you something to help her. Keep us updated and GOOD LUCK :luck: For Jill :huggles:

God I do hope Jill is ok :( Good Luck Jill :huggles: :luck:

Oh dear...it does sound like the antibiotics have really upset her digestive system and caused colitis. This is a really distressing condition. The tiniest amounts of food going in one end just come straight out the other, and the stomach lining is so irritated and inflamed that blood is passed in the stools too.

I hope the vet does something about this rapidly. Poor Jill...I hope she starts to recover soon. :( It must be very upsetting for you.

All the very best :luck: for the morning Jill-very distressing for you :( lets hope she will be on the mend after tomorrows visit :luck: :huggles: :luck: :huggles: :luck:

Any news on your poor girl Keith? :luck: :luck:

how very sad and distressing for you keith...

i really hope there is good news soon

Lots of luck coming your way and a few :huggles:

Oh dear Keith, I've only just caught up with this. How horrible for you and poor little Jill :( I know how worried you must be, my William suffers from bouts of colitis, and it's horrifying to see how quickly the weight can drop off them isn't it, and you feel so helpless. I really hope your vet can pinpoint the problem quickly (though it does sound like it's the meds doesn't it), and get her sorted. Poor lamb. :huggles: :huggles: to you both.

Sorry its took me so long to reply, but my keyboard didnt work when i booted up my comp so ive treated myself to a new one, ok i had jill back to the vets and he says its an exremely bad case of colitis, he has told me to stop giving her the recovery pack that he gave me the other day cos i told him its going straight thro her, and i new it would, so now hes given me some Lectade, its a powder you mix it with water, thing is i was cooking a chicken for lunch and i could see her smelling the air, so i gave her a bit, she walloped the lot, but i dont wanna overdo it and overload her stomach, am i right, he also gave me some pro kolin, you squirt it into there mouths bungs em up i think, oh yes and another steroid injection, but god she is weak, and thin isnt the word, but im hoping now she is on the mend, i miss my owd dog jill.

Thanks all for asking

Glad to hear you know what it is, im sure with the new stuff and your love and care she will be back to old jill in no time at all.... :huggles:

Wishing Jill a speedy recovery & :huggles: :huggles: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Yes...just really small amounts of cooked chicken. Don't over do it.

The pro-kolin is to help settle the stomach lining and replace some of the 'good' bacteria that have been lost, and to assist with the stomach starting to digest the food, rather than just pushing it straight through.

I'm quoting all this from memory, as Stan had a sever bout of colitis once when I fed him too much liver. He got so weak, he almost collapsed on me a couple of times.

Hope she's on the mend now.....colitis is horrible. :luck:

Yep, William has had pro-kolin on a couple of occasions, it does help to bind the stomach contents, especially helpful when you start giving her tiny amounts of food again.

I found that even plain chicken was too much for William to stomach when he was really bad though, and so gave him plain poached white fish (cod or coley), with white rice boiled really sticky & soft, which he managed a lot better.

A couple of ideas for you Keith; Tree Barks powder from Dorwest Herbs is especially recommended for colitis, and they also do a homaeopathic remedy called Merc Viv for digestive disorders. If you speak to Tony there he's extremely helpful, and is a whippet owner himself. They don't try to sell you stuff you don't need, and anything you do order is dispatched that day and generally arrives next day.

Good luck Keith, hope poor little Jill's soon on the road to recovery :huggles:

Glad you know whats wrong with her Keith fingers crossed the new medication works.

Glad she seems to be a little better Keith - my old dobe had colitis all her life on/off. No diets seemed to help but natural live yoghurt was a real help to get that 'solid steamer' again! It might help get her gut bacteria correct again - good luck, can't wait for the news that 'it' has been 'laid!' Yvette

Keith, how's your little girl coming on ? Hope she's begining to keep some food in her and her tum is settling, she must be wondering what on earth is happening to her.

:luck: and lots of :huggles: to Jill, p.s. check her underneath too, remember I pm'd you to ask if Jill had come into season yet, well Ella did at 11 months, started with diarrhoea at same time but not so severe, just hope your Jill gets over this before her season starts.

Poor girl will be thinking of her especially as it's her 1st birthday tomorrow, hoping soon you can post a getting well photo :luck:

Well yes julie its jills birthday today and what a birthday, she is really poorly and both me and the oh are really upset, when i woke up this morning she normally flops off her chair at the side of my bed, not so this morning i had to lift her off and she screamed out in pain, at the moment she is downstairs in her box cos she is to weak to come up to me, i had her to the vets yesterday, the junior vet says it looks like a severe case of colitis, and yet his partner told me it looks like she has had a bad reaction to the anti biotics, and that is what i really believe, she cannot drink enough water as soon as i put it down its gone, and she is eating, only small ammounts but she is eating, now then Heidi, [PONY GIRL] thanks for the advice, in fact thanks to all thats shown concern about my dog, but at the moment even though im running out of confidence with my vet i dont think it wise to put my dogs health in anyones hands other than a vet, the way im handling her well being at the moment is to try and keep her warm and comfortable, see that she gets the medication thats been given to me, warm drinks, this morning when i took her outside for a wee, i brought her back in sat her on my knee and had to rub her warm, then when i put her down, she just stands there real arched head hanging down, and just stands ther till i move her, ive even lost weight myself worrying about her.

Poor little Jill, Happy Birthday Sweetheart :huggles: There is nothing worse than watching someone you love suffer and you cant do anything about it. :( You have to look after yourself to though Keith, hope things improve soon. :huggles:

You're absolutely right Keith....do as the vet recommends. I think both vets are right in that this is all a result of the antibiotics, which have upset her digestive system and caused the colitis.

I do hope her stomach lining settles down. It's probably inflammed which is causing her some pain/discomfort. The medication you are giving her should be helping her.

Good luck :luck: I really do feel for you...it is such a distressing condition. :(

Hello Keith,

I have only just read this thread as I thought it was about wooden steamer chairs for the garden :b

I'm so sorry to hear how Jill has been suffering, and you worrying as well. I hope that she gets stronger as each day goes on :luck:
