Well.... the house has felt very empty since Ernie our little foster Corgi went off to his new home. I think fate steps in sometimes, though, because the day after he left I heard from a lovely lady up in Bolton who has done lots for the Oldies Club in the past to say there was a little 15 year old Terrier X in her local pound, handed in after his owner died. Because of his age he was due to be put to sleep the next day :(

To cut a long story short, she got the little dog out and held him safe until the Oldies Club could arrange transport for him to come to me on foster. He arrived this afternoon and is an absolute little darling

I'd guess he is a Border Terrier X JRT, but he is really very fit and sprightly for his age, he's trotting around all over the place and very quickly decided the sofa was the place to be and hopped up there no problem. He's been fantastic with my dogs and the people in the household, gentle tail-wags for everybody and everything, bless him.

I'll get some better pictures when he's settled a bit, but just for now:

Having cuddles on the sofa with David (and Meg getting in on the act :p )

Poor little boy , his whole world has been turned upside down :(

He is a lovely boy

What a wonderful thing to do...big hugs to you for being a foster Mum to a little soul that lost his Mummy....

An adorable little face, hope he settles in okay.

what a lucky little dog, hope he finds a good home soon  well done to all involved :)

Awk look, lovely pics and good on you for giving him a loving home.

you are a star fiona  how sweet is that little boy good luck in finding him his final forever sofa :huggles:

A couple of better pictures of him. He can't be described as a 'pretty' dog, he's a bit like a dog that's been designed by a committee who couldn't quite decide what they wanted  He has a nature to die for, though - you just say his name and he's right beside you looking up and wagging his little stumpy tail

For some reason I feel he should be on wheels with a handle for little kids to push around  He'd probably quite enjoy that

Yes , I could see him with wheels and a handle being pushed around by little children :huggles:

He looks such a little sweetie.  I do hope he finds a forever home to spend his twilight years. :luck:

Fair play, what must he have gone through being in the pound. i was down the local one the other day and it was full, they stated they had never seen it so bad, with people just dumping the bigger dogs cos they cant afford to feed them

Sadly we've had a bit of a roller coaster of health issues with Benji since he arrived. He developed a terrible cough, thought possibly to be kennel cough or some sort of chest infection at first, but he just hasn't been able to shake it off. The vet still thinks it's some sort of infection, and he's on yet another course of antibiotics, but there is the worry that there is something more serious going on. As well as that he's had several small seizures since he's been here, and we're having tests done at the moment to see if we can find out what's causing them.

With all the uncertainties over his health, we've made the decision not to rehome him, and he will stay here permanently now as an Oldies Club sponsor dog. It's not quite being a failed fosterer :-

Benji himself is as happy as Larry and has no idea there might be anything wrong with him. He's a bright, active, alert little dog who can easily manage an hour's walk and then come back and want to play with his toys. He really is the dearest little boy - somebody has taken time to train him and socialise him, he knows all sorts of tricks and commands. I'm sure he was somebody's special dog once, which makes it even more sad that he ended up in the pound at his age. As you can probably tell, I totally adore him, and he will be loved here for however long he has left

:) Ahhh how nice that he doesn't have to be moved on again. I hope he has many happy times with you :D

Julie.

He is happy and loved and I hope he is with you for a long time yet :luck: :huggles: :luck:

What a lovely end to his story - I'd love to foster/ adopt oldie dogs but am waiting til the kids leave home - bit too much upset when the inevitable happens. I think it's an amazing thing to put yourself through eventual upset to make sure their last months/ years are fab, though of course you get loads back from them while they are here.

Well done you for taking on this little fella. :)

It brought tears to my eyes looking at little Benji and wondering how he came to be in the pound. So pleased to hear that he can stay with you where he will be really loved and cared for. :huggles:

He's lovely. I think you're a star giving him a home.

Awwwwwwww what a cutie  i hope he has many happy years with you :D

My freind just loss her terrier x,he was a rescue, she is gutted about this. She is now on the look out for a terrier puppy, possible Border terrier or cross,i've given her a couple of numbers to go on.

What a lovely story  it always breaks my heart when I hear of oldies ending up in rescue, thank goodness there are people like you to bring happiness back to them for the rest of their lives, well done
