No im not planning another addition just yet but would be interested to know how many people on here own just one whippet and for those multiple whippet households, how long was it before you got your second? How did things change? Any regrets/ advice.

I have one whippet...but I'm very lucky to have the absolutely and totally bestest most stupendous whippet in the world

...and I also have Alfie and Daisy so I'm a single whippet household but not single dog :D :D :D

I think about 18 months - 2 years is ideal between whippets . I think having more than 1 whippet is fantastic they just so love other whippets .

They can play together and cuddle up together :D

:) Ozzy was about 15 months when we got Vinnie (I also have two retired racing greyhounds - both elderly) I dont regret a thing even though both of mine seem to have a death wish :- " they love playing and chasing each other round as well as snuggling up to each other. :huggles:

You get the idea dawn...I have the best Whippet ever...just cos you're jealous :D :- "

I think having more than one whippet is wonderful as they can cuddle upto each other, enjoy playing together and just having the company of another dog and us humans of course  Rocky is nearly 10 years old and Bailey is 19 months and they get on famously - I would love to have another for Bailey to play with he he!! (w00t)

I must admit when I got Bailey I did think am I doing the right thing as Rocky came everywhere with me and was never alone (I had a year of Rocky being on his own, first time for him and I :- " ) but when I got Bailey, he totally adored Rocky and they are always sharing the same bed (more Baileys idea than Rocky's :teehee: ). I believe its also meant that Rocky enjoys his walks more and kept him fit especially at his age :D

Good luck in whatever you decide :luck: Very exciting :huggles:

Ok so what would you say the pros and cons are? One dog verses two.
Alfie my eldest collie x 'babysat' Blue when she first arrived (also taught her that traffic wasn't frightening), I never had a sleepless night with her, all three of them play together, albeit slowly as both Alfie and Daisy are elderly.

Whippets do seem to love the company of other dogs, Bluebell certainly does, but we also just go out together so she doesn't rely on the others totally for confidence when out and about.

I'm lucky in that my two older dogs are obediant and calm so have taught Bluebell good manners and sensible ways

I just love all your photos on your signatures. I guess I am lucky in that lucy gets to stay at my parents house a couple of hours every day during the week while im out. They have two lurchers that she loves to run and play with.

So she gets the best of both worlds, loads of attention but regular canine company too - lucky girl

We've got two 13 week old pups.

Pros: they settled very quickly at night, have no separation issues when we move to different rooms, seem to teach each other eg one got 'sit' quickly, the other learned how to ask to go out, many many admiring glances and 'awwws' when we take them out together, two sons + two dogs= no fighting over playing with them/ walking them! They also play in the garden together so exercise each other if we can't take them on a long walk. There's always at least one dog who wants to cuddle up and watch TV with you.

Cons: obviously more money on insurance, microchipping, vaccinations, food etc; asking my mum and dad to mind two dogs if we go away seems a bigger 'ask' (but still easier than babysitting two lads so they still see it as a relief!) and the fights the two dogs have are quite startling. They only last a few minutes but they pin each other by the neck, fling each other around by the ears, grab each other round the muzzle, to the sounds of horrible yelps. It's only by being on here that I am ressured that it's normal. They've not drawn blood yet but it sounds very nasty.

Oh and they like humping each other, but not in public (yet) :b

I have two Whippets, Milly 4 and Poppy 11 months, Its brill to see them run together. Both brought from Mrs Jax, :huggles: Mulcair Whippets, I would certainly have another now if I could just swap my wife for one :- " mmmm thats a thought lol

i wouldnt be with out my girls i always wondered if angel wouldaccept another dog as being a mummy's girl and when she was 2 i took the plunge and bought daisy and have never had a single nights problem they adore each other i love to see them together and now daisy is 2 1/2 whippet number 3 will soon be joining the mad house :teehee: but i do know that she will be accepted and just as adored by my girls i think on the whole whippets do readily accept their own kind as they are such sociable little dogs :huggles:

I would really recommend having two whippets. Although we had Bobby, a Collie X, when I got Dolly as a puppy and they got on very well, he never really wanted to snuggle up with her or run together like whippets do.

It took me a while to persuade OH to let me have another whippet, and we then got Remmy (then 10 months old) . They get on so well together and I have never regretted getting a second whippet. They just seem to have bonded so well. I would always have two now (well I would have more than two, but OH prevents this :( ). There is about 2 years between them which is quite a good age gap I think.

Good luck with your decision. :luck:

John , that is VERY naughty  You know you love Pauline

Id always kept singleton whippets before the boysI have now.

Never had a problem with one single dog I must admit....and they always had plenty of attention...but there are advantages to owning more than one....being they amuse each other, sleep, run and play together.

Oscar was 8 months when I brought Kobi home and never had a problem with them touch wood...mind you Archie is another  character altogether...he isnt 2 yet and hasnt grown up... and they do get each other into trouble sometimes.
