It's been great to read about those of you who are endavouring to go and be bled :- " . We call them VAMPIRES INTERNATIONAL here lol !!!

Got my blood group today which is O-

Apparently only 7% of the population have it but it's a pain in the bum as although it's used in emergencies when there's not enough time to blood type a patient (i.e EVERYONE can have it) and it's used in operations for unborn babies ...

... the only blood that I can receive is O- :( I've got my donor card in my purse just in case now lol, so hands off my blood everyone I'm donating it just in case I need it !!! ME ME ME !!!

I've been reading up on it as OH is A- and my sister is O+ (bloody commoner :teehee: ). My Mum seems to think she was blood typed when in the RAF and they said she was OD+ but I think the D must be instead of the currently used RH (rhesus).

I carnt give blood becoues of the transusions and drugs i am on but I would like tosay thanks As I wouldnt be here but for all you bleeders out there. Blood is used for so many things and saves so many lives your all heros

Don't pounce on me....but aren't some of you surprised that in today's climate we don't actually get paid for blood donations-paid as in cash-

I know that as soon as money enters into things... things change-people might lie about contamination/past illnesses etc...in order to receive their pay...? just a thought.

Very British of us though eh? to have a needle popped in your veins for a cuppa and a custard cream..

 ...oh and of course the sheer good will to mankind-lol

(p.s-I've donated many times- 8)

i tried and failed, they got fed up with my crappy veins

I am aneamic so i cant give blood either.

Not sure if this true but i was told you cant give blood if you have tattoo's either??

You cannot give blood within x amount of months of having a tattoo, I would assume this is because of the risk of needle contamination and that some diseases can go undetected in the blood stream for a significant length of time.

On the upside, any "promiscuous" persons out there can get tested for HIV, AIDS, and a variety of other things including STD's without having to feel embaressed by going to a gyno unit.

P.S I think next time I will go to the donation place with my name and address written on my forehead the amount of time they check and double check you're really you.

All the repetition for a custard cream :sweating:

I would love to but I have problems with mine so they don't want it :(

When Alex was with us he needed a blood transfusion and it gave us an extra 9 days with him.... I can't thank the person who donated their blood to help my baby boy enough.... not that I know who it is of course, but all who do are true o:) o:) o:) o:) o:) here on earth :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

Well this morning in the post my OH and I received thankyou cards from the National Blood Service for donating 3 times in the last year. I thought it was a lovely gesture (and if I keep the letter and take it with me next time I go I get a coaster). Have told Mum that if we go 3 times next year and the year after she might get a full set of coasters LOL.

Keep up the brilliant work everyone !

I recently had another 3 units from you all.

About the cash fee bit.......I think men get paid for donating their tadpoles (or is that just in America ?)

and ladies who are surrogate mothers are only supposed to get paid expenses (nothing to stop one buying nice pressies for such a generous person tho' !)

I think the general feeling is you never know when you might be on the receiving end so people do it out of pure goodwill and that's great ;)

me and i have been on the bone marrow doner list since i was 18 ,i was called a couple of years ago as a match but after further blood tests i didnt match but my Doctors were excited as it was the first time they had a request from the bone marrow society

i have bad veins...the last time i tried to give blood it took 5 people and my arms sat in warm water for half an hour....still didnt get any

ive given 22 donations in the past but unfortunatley i always ended up been anemic so was advised not to donate anymore, was so annoying cause it makes you feel like your doing something very worthwhile .

once did platlet donation and it wasnt a good experience at first , so i told them i felt sick and dizzy so they slowed the transfer down and i felt alot better :sweating:

well done to everyone that donates ,people need you so keep it up
