Today we went to the vets for the annual vaccinations, I mentioned that Moz kept getting small bruises and I wasn't sure of why, previously I'd put them down to him racing, but as he hasn't been racing because of the kc outbreak and a few others had popped up this week I thought it worth a mention. The outcome is it may be down to worms, Daisy is beating him at night or it may be something really horrid that the vet didnt go into.

Has anyone come across this before, the vet said it was quite common in greyhounds in Ireland but he has seen more cases here in the uk in the last 12 months than he has in the last 10 years

Moz is going to be wormed everyday for the next 4 weeks incase it is down to worms

Oh poor Moz. I've never heard of anything like that before. If your vet thinks its common in greyhounds in Ireland - you could try PMing Martin Tucker who is a fellow K9er, and has greyhound kennels in Ireland. If it is a common thing, Martin will know about it :thumbsup: Hope you get it sorted soon :luck:
 
Small update on Mozza, he had tests for heartworm done today, as well as other blood tests, his blood doesn't clot very quickly :eek: so we are hoping it is heartworm which is treatable and as anything else would be more serious and will probably stop him racing again :( .

Im a bit stressed and a lot freaked out with this news we will just have to wait for test results to come back for now :'(

He on the other hand is fine in himself but in a sulk with me for leaving him at the vets :huggles:

aww poor moz :huggles: hope hes feeling better soon hun sending him and you (cause you sound down)and sound like ya could do with a good old WELSH CWTCH :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

hi Moz is fine and enjoying the sunshine :) he has just about forgiven me for leaving him at the vets Friday :- " Only problem is they want him back tomorrow for some more blood :eek: he has a low platelet count :unsure:

Back from the vets, no evidence of heartworm was found so either he had them and they've been killed off or he didnt have them to start with.

He is now being investigated for thrombocytopaenia, which can be treated

If not they will do bone marrow tests :(

Ah.............Now I know a little a bit about this as a close family relative has it. It is a depletion of platelets and can often be idiopathic (no apparent cause). The bone marrow tests are related to the condition as that is where platelets are manufactured. Don't worry too much Lou, if your vet feels confident that it can be treated, it most probably can. Hope Moz is back in fine fettle very soon, and chin up :luck:
 
Hi just caught up with this thread - and i knew from the very first post - thats how it started with my 5 year old she is now on 25mg of Immuran (azathiopine) every 48 hours and Prednisolone (steroid) for Immune Mediated Thrombocytopaenia.

It all started 1 year ago - the blood brusing, she was also passing blood through her number 2's! She went straight onto emergency medication (about four different types daily) and it has been slowly reduced - she is now blood tested every 1-2 months and i couldnt ask for a happier whippie she leads a normal life with me, the medication will keep being reduced but i dont think she will ever come off it completly.

:luck: :luck: for a speedy recovery and i hope its not thrombocytopaenia!
