Well, they have all had a wing except Lily ( I couldn't bring myself to let her have one  :b ).  She just had the meat I cut off for her. They all chewed them well and no-one had a problem with the new taste  .  It was a bit nerve racking though, feeding raw bones! I need a nice cuppa now (w00t)

There you go, it wasn't that bad was it! :sweating: Go on, let Lily have one too!

Mine have chicken wings for breakfast every day- they love em!

I started the IGs on them at about 6 weeks old (w00t) - it was so funny seeing a tiny Iggy puppy snapping and snarling over a chicken wing as big as herself! They became wild animals as soon as they were given one! :- "

They couldn't chew the bones up at that age though- they just learnt to gnaw at them.

I am convinced that the chicken wings have really helped their teeth- I do brush their teeth regularly as well, but if I do say so myself, my IGs have beautiful clean teeth for their age

I only give my dogs wings from the butchers or supermarket though- these must be younger birds with softer bones as the wings I have bought from AMP have been bigger and always make my dogs throw up the bones after a few hours :x

I have to admit i was nervous giving Evie her first chicken wing and i think she was about 6 months when i plucked up the courage to give her one, she has one every other day and loves them. :p

I cut the wing tip off for Gracie 11 weeks she has a good old crunch and it's gone then goes to see what Evie is munching :- " , think I will have to start giving Gracie a bit more soon :p

The more they have the quicker they get at eating them, go for it and give it a try

Julie

Hi Julie, Gracie's sisters are munching through whole wings now - have been for a while

The girls seem pleasedthat i "plucked" up the courage to try them! They looked quite small wings. Will try Tesco and the local butchers might have necks.

Got your message. Just try with Lily by giving her the tip and seeing how she goes :D

Glad you decided to try it.

I get my wings for £6 for a 15kg (30lb) box from a local abbatoir. VERY lucky. I also get carcasses for £4 for the same size box. WISH I could get necks!

I get wings from my local butcher for 45p a lb. I get carcases for 20p each, no idea what that works out at per lb. He also gets me lamb, ox tails, ox hearts and is trying to get me any other offal that he can.

Is everyone a raw feeder or is it just the occasional bit of chicken?

The tip about playing tuggy with the wing to encourage Raffy to eat it did work. He still took absolutely ages to eat it compared to Hebes "crunch, crunch, gone technique (w00t) "

In fact I think one went down pretty much whole yesterday, I expected it to reappear at some point but no, it's gone. That is a bit scary so I'll have to hold on to the end of it so she cant swallow it in one go.

My o.h. cant even bring himself to watch as it makes him feel ill hearing the crunching :x

I introduced chicken wings a few months back. I was nervous at first, but haven't experienced any problems so far, touch wood.

Stan makes very quick work of them. He does crunch them...but lays into them without a second thought.

Fred is more of a gentleman. He delicately fishes his out of his bowl, lays it ceremoniously on the rug, carefully licks and worships it, and then proceeds to crunch it in manageable mouthfuls. I resist the temptation to give him a serviette at the same time :- "

Well done Rafferty...knew he'd get the hang of it in the end.

Talking of these and in relation to the facts that cats and pigs have 'caught' bird flu by eating infected carcasses.

Does anyone know on here whether there is any risk of dogs catching it from eating raw fowl be it chicken wings or dead wild birds?

If someone has already answered this somewhere could someone point me in the direction of the posts please?

I do half and half. I feed complete in the mornings and raw in the evenings. It's mostly chicken, but I do rotate stuff.

Pretty much raw all the time, unless I use a Naturediet pack if we go away to stay at my Mum's or something. Lots of tripe, veg, rice, wholemeal biscuit and raw egg  a variety of other meats and of course chicken wings :)

I heard an interview on the radio of someone from DAFRA (not sure if that's correct initials). Raw meat that has been previously frozen is fine - i freeze all mine before defrosting and feeding anyway.

I started to feed mine on a raw diet about 3 weeks ago. I was really freaked out by the raw chicken thing but no one has come to any harm. I feed a variety, lamb necks, flanks and shanks, chicken wings legs and carcases and raw veg. I also give them yogurt and eggs. They really seem to enjoy it. I am glad I started it now.

If you feed raw, and its something i have had a go at (cant quite bring myself to feed raw mince though) where is the best place to purchase it,

butchers? or a farm shop and where do i find one of those....

Chicken wings are very cheap in asda, but where do you get necks ??

Yep, local Butchers will get necks. Not all will though. We have turkey necks free from them. They are massive though, so only chloe gets them. they look absolutely disgusting, but she loves them! :x
