i have heard before that it is very bad for dogs to eat chocolate but didnt realise that it was this bad  what is the reason that choc is so bad then.would it actually have killed the dog that ate a lot of it then without the vets intervention.
It's the theobromine in the cholocate. Milk chocolate isn't too bad. The darker the chocolate the more theobromine and the more dangerous it is, and yes it can and does kill dogs.

I don't let my girls have chocolate in any form - not even a lick. And they know it as well. It wouldn't stop them nicking a chocolate bar, but it does stop them begging for it.

Better to be safe than sorry.

The double danger in this story is that raisins and grapes can be toxic to dogs, so these poor babies not only got dark chocolate, but raisins as well.

Fingers crossed they get better soon.

the last phone call from the vet sounded encouraging...

BOTH boys were being pesky, :D ripping out drips, demanding dinner, eyeing up cats etc

i nipped in to the surgery to hand over my wages at reception and could hear the pair of them having a singalong in the back (w00t) :- "

so all looks well for recovery
