What a morning :( Not long out of the vets, Thankfully both Murphy my pup Whippet & Poppy my Border okay.

Went for a walk with the dogs in some fields close to where I live, I always try to be vigilant due to the amount of pitball types I often see in this area, Today I let my guard down to take some photos with my new camera, when I heard some woman screaming at her dog, when I looked up, poor Murphy had been ploughed into by this big bull x lurcher with a sickening thud then grabbed hold Murphy,, lucky enough by his dog coat and shook him, as I ran to Murphy, Poppy jumped out of some hedges and made a beeline for the lurcher, Poppy who is normally a friendly dog, through herself at this dog, the dog then started attacking Poppy, when I got to her the dog was holding onto Poppy from the back of her neck pinning her down and wouldnt let go, the woman was making matters worse screaming and whipping her B...DY dog and me , found out later this dog should have been muzzled and was a dog killer  Some bloke out jogging came over to help, to be honest I ended up having to choke it off with its lead, after all my other attempts failed, Poor Poppy by this time was quite limp and not able to stand, Murphy was sitting a little away from me panting and obviously shaken. Myself and this bloke carried both dogs to my home, thats after I got this womans address.

Took both dogs the vets Murphys seems to be fine,Poppy has a couple wounds to her neck, cleaned the wounds out gave her a injection and some antibiotics.

I will calling at this womans house tonight and having words with her, why it was off the lead? why didnt have a muzzle on ? when obviously she had no control over it  I wll also put in a complaint to the local police.

hope poppy and murphy make a speedy recovery :luck: :huggles:

omg what a awful experience for you all, hope murphy been the youngest isnt too traumatised, these bad experiences can stick with them for life :( glad to her poppy is ok and hope she soon mends :huggles:

hope you get some sense into the owner of that dog,its disgusting the amount of dogs that are allowed to free run when their owners know they will attack

I'm so sorry to hear this and I hope both your dogs are ok :(

:( Im so glad they are both ok. Poppy was obviously trying to protect Murphy. It makes me so bloody mad to read this, what was this woman thinking??  Make sure you do report it to the police.

What a traumatic experience for you and your dogs. :( I do hope they are OK. :luck:

I really cannot understand why anyone who has a dog like this doesn't keep it muzzled and on a lead.  Hope you have some success with the police.

Thanks :) Thank goodness both dogs are okay, Its my turn now adviced by the N,H,Direct , to go the A & E Due to me being in some pain and bleeding from the area of my recent operation :( when it rains it rains  both dogs seem fine and having there mad half hour  Regards to all ;)

OMG how horrible for you all :( , certainly requires a visit to the ladys home from the local police. Hope murphy and poppy recover from their experience, may I suggest if you don't already know arnica tablets for the wounds really helps the skin heal to helps the bruising come out.

All the best

Liz

Really sorry for you all, hope all will be ok.

i know how scarey these situations are as my little terrier was pts as the result of being attacked by a staffordshire bull terrier a few years ago and it was awful, back then the staffs owner was screaming at her dog before it even grabbed mine and she beat it and screamed all the while it shook my boy. People who allow that to happen are morons and shouldn't be out with a dog at all. I really hope she learns from this and I hope you report her for the sake of anyone else her dog might attack xx

That is terrible news - glad your dogs were not badly injured. I have recently started taking a blackthorn walking stick with me when i walk my dogs. You never know when a walking stick might come in handy.

Report it to the police - if she is already on record for having a dangerous dog that should be muzzled action nedds to be taken. I hope she is paying for your visit to the vet?

Oh dear :( You take care of yourself too! :luck:

It sounds as though you've had a horrible day. Hope you and your dogs are ok now.

hope Murphy and Poppy are recovering, its never easy when something like this happens, i tend to carry a adjustable spanner just in case of emergencys (like my battery on the car needs tightening :- )

Words fail me :( .... apart from words which I can't really put onto a public forum

I do hope little Poppy recovers quickly and that Murphy isn't too shaken up :luck: :luck:

And best wishes for you too  .......... what a disastrous day for you

and as for the owner of the dog ...........

Police, yes!

Pay vet bill, yes!

Banned from keeping any dog, YES YES YES

OMG! You poor thing. As a 'responsible' Staffordshire Bull Terrier owner this sickens me to the core....My Arnie was attacked by an out of control Staff many years ago and I was so shaken up. These people take their dogs out knowing full well that they should be muzzled and they do nothing.

Go to the police, make a formal complaint and they should inform the local dog warden who will take a statement from both you and the irresponsible owner. She has no business owning such a dog if she cannot control it.

I hope your babies are okay and that you get some sleep tonight. This kind of thing makes you very nervous and it will take you and them time to gain confidence again on your walks.

I hope you're all okay...sending you hugs.

x

Oh poor you - what a terrifying experience, now you've looked after your dogs, please look after yourself

Good job Murphy had his coat on, & poor Poppy coming to his rescue

Hope you are all on the road to recovery very soon

I know there are lots of responsible staffy owners, especially those that take on rescues despite the breed getting a bad name. However, in areas not too far from where I live (about 10 miles outside Liverpool) they are the dog of choice for people who see them as an alternative to carrying a knife (actually they probably carry more than knives as well). It's a badge of how hard they see themsleves. I'm sure they love the dogs in their own way but they are often not going to be the kind of people to go to dog training. We know that going through certain areas there will be gangs of lads with Staffies at their heels. And they always have the biggest nastiest looking collars and harnesses, (the dog equivalent of a knuckle duster? ) It's a shame that these lovely dogs are becoming the token of the criminal, like dobermans were in the eighties. I know this seems very judgemental, and I'm normally not like this at all but this is just what I see and it does scare me when I'm out with the dogs. The only dog to snap at mine so far has been a staffy, which fortunately WAS on a lead at the time. The way people are breeding these dogs indiscriminately will only add to the temperament problems - and at a guess, this woman probably didn't buy the dog ( I bet it was the son/ husband) and she's been left to look after it with no respect from the dog whatsoever and subsequently no control over it.

Really sorry about what happened and glad you are all ok. :)

Thankyou for all your words of support it was very much appreciated, Poppy & Murphy seem none the worse for there ordeal, Me however is OOOing & OWWWing every time I have to move  Hopefully Murphy has not been to effected by yesterdays events and Poppy returns back to her oldself, melo and dog friendly.

With regards calling at the womans, I have contacted the police they are going around today and said they will also call at my home.

Its sad that dogs end up with the wrong people, who are idiots who dont care about the welfare of their dogs or other peoples, this neednt have happend, if the dog was muzzled and kept under control. Lucky I was able enough, to choke this dog off, what if it had been a old person who I often see walking ther dogs. The sad part is its the dog that gets punished in most cases.

Regards Liverpoolmitch

i hope poppy and murphy are not traumatised by this sometimes it affects dogs and they then become wary of other dogs or go in first just in case, you need to rest a bit more and as others say take a walking stick out with you, i would also say instead of going round her house to have words take the vet bill, hopefully the chap that helped you has given you his address so i would if i was you go to the police station and report it if it is a dog killer then the owner should do the right thing and have it put to sleep, the next dog might not be so lucky, or a child even

take care and i hope you get better soon
