Poor old Badger. I have been following this thread on him but haven't been able to comment much, as it's starting to mirror very much what is happening to Fred at the moment. He had breathing difficulties over the New Year and had to see the emergency vet. He's now on various heart drugs...he seems to be responding, but is extremely shakey on his hind legs these days and falls over a lot.

They are both very similar ages too, Fred was 14 in October last year.

:luck: Badger & Fred, our gentle oldies

Poor Badger and Fred - two lovely boys.  I do hope they both show some improvement on their medication. :luck: :luck: Sending hugs to them both.

Aww poor Fred, I really feel for you, some days with Badger are quite stressful as some days I think we should call it a day and others, he's really bright but that's the thing with heart failure, no consistency so its very up and down.

Badger too is very wobbly and weaves a bit as he walks now....if he stands still, his back legs fold and he ends up sitting down after half a minute or less...but all the while he wants to go for a walk and is mobile, we just let him dictate what happens. Badger was 14 last August so they are the same age bless them.

Big hugs to Fred and you. xx

Not a good time for either of you ladies and your old boys . heres hoping they improve and still have a good quality of life .

Thinking of you both , Jackie

thought i'd update this for those of you who aren't on my Facebook.

It's been a stressful morning in our household....for the last week Badger has not been eating properly and we have struggled to get him interested in any food.

In the early hours of this morning I noticed he was rubbing at his eye...the growth on his eyelid has caused an ulcer on his eyeball.

we took him to the vets knowing that he can't have surgery as he won't survive the anaesthetic.....the vet managed to remove the growth with Badger still fully conscious so we have brought him back home for now.

He still isn't really eating and has to go back Wednesday for another look at his eye and to review his health........we have decided that unless he is eating properly by Wednesday, then we are going to call it a day as the vet told us this morning it could be the loss of appetite is his body beginning to shut down.......

:( Im so sorry to be reading your update. You have done everything you can and im sure Badger knows how much he is loved by you and your family. I agree with Janice - its the hardest thing to do but its the last act of love and kindness you can do for him. He will let you know when hes had enough :(

Thinking of you :huggles:

big, BIG cuddles for Badger and for all of you. Very very difficult decision to make but you know him best - and he's been so loved.

Thinking of you all and enjoy your time with him.

Much love, Gill

Thinking of you all at this difficult time and sending much love :huggles:

Poor Badger

How brave to have his eyelid operated on while still awake :(

Thinking of you all at this difficult time.

Gentle Hug for old Badger, a brave old boy.

Aww just wanted to say I think you and badger are really brave, sending :huggles: from Dotty Duke and Sue xx

Our internet has been down for a few days so I am very sorry to read the latest on Badger. You will do the right thing for him however hard it may be and our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. Gentle cuddles from us to him.

That is very sad, one thing that might give him some relief wth his eye is to put cod liver oil in every couple of hours. My old terrier had a huge ulcer and this cured it ( she had been under the Vet with it and the Vet approved of me trying the oil.

I'm absolutely devastated to have to tell you guys that Badger has taken a turn for the worst today and is being put to sleep this evening.

I am on the sofa with him now and that is where we will spend our afternoon together.

This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do, my beautiful dog has given me so much, he is my first whippet and I have had him longer than any dog I have ever owned..it is really killing me to have to do this.

I'm so very sorry :huggles: :'(

It's the kindest decision for him, but that doesn't make it any easier. I'll be thinking of you and Badger this evening.

It is so very hard...but in my opinion kinder in the end... :'(

but that dosnt make it any easier...my thoughts are with you and Badger...hold him tight xxxxx

Go with love dear boy.

Oh Heidi, I'm so very, very sorry, your heart must be breaking :( I shall be thinking of you and Badger :huggles:

Heidi, I am so so sorry to read that you will be saying goodbye to Badger today. He couldn’t have asked for a better family; he will have had the most wonderful life with you and you are granting him one final kindness by letting him go peacefully. I know that won’t make you hurt any less though and for that I am truly sorry; it is the most awful feeling. :(

Be strong for him tonight – sending a hug to the both of you.
