Story in the Northern Echo this morning.....

DO YOU KNOW WHY MICKEY WONT EAT ???

The owners of a greyhound that has only 2 weeks to live have appealed for readers help to save his life.

Mickey hasnt eaten for six or seven weeks but vets have no idea whats wrong with him

|He has been getting thinner and thinner and Susan and John Clayton have tried everything they can to make him eat.

Now they are appealing to readers of the Northern Echo to see if they can come up with a solution.

Mr Clayton 59 said 'Hes at deaths door and we have tried everything.'

We have only got a fortnight and weve tried soups, chicken and the best minced beef - but he wont eat anything.

The couple who live in Bates Avenue, Darlington have ten greyhounds as they used to breed the dogs and often take then in after they have finished racing to save them from being put down.

My Clayton said Mickey is ten years old and weve had him since being a puppy. He should have another four or five years left.

He is a lovely good natured dog and he looks at you so pitifully as if to say 'why arnt I eating anything.

Anyone who thinks they may be able to help Mickey is asked to call the Claytons on 01325 240346.

If anyone thinks they may be able to help this poor lad please ring :(

Could be he's eaten something and it's blocked his stomach, or a tumour or anything really. Do you know if he has had scans or xrays or anything? Also is he being fed by a drip?

There is a dog on The Refuge called Snickett who has SLO, could be similar.

Sorry it's not much help, but I can't think what it could be. :(

Hope they find an answer soon. :luck:

:( poor man :( is he still taking fluids? broth, water, even a thin meat porridge?

i'm praying for him :luck:

So sorry to hear of this little fella.... :( my hopes & prayers go out to him & his family..

Im so sorry that i cant advise on anything else that hasnt been said... hope they find an answer soon....

:luck: :luck: Good luck... :luck: :luck:

I was just hoping someone on K9 may be able to help ...... if so please ring - you may save a life. :luck: :luck:

I wonderd myself why he hasnt been sent to a specialist ..... if the vet cannot help.

poor thing ,hope he gets better,i feel so sad after hearing about him. :(

went thro the same thing with a pointer, collapsed and looked like a dead dog, all skin and bone. Xrayed ops the lot to no avail. in the end i force fed him for 5 years. Quite a committment and no mean feat. Forced open mouth, popped in tiny bolus of food, held head up until swallowed rpt ad finitum for about 40 mins twice daily. Not funny, not to be tried unless really sure you want to keep the dog alive!! No way could he be left with anyone as he wouldnt eat, so no holidays away etc. To this day i have no idea why it started as had him from a pup. Just refused one day and that was that. A properly anorexic dog. Just as wierd one day he just started eating again. (????) he is now 8 and i have enjoyed 3 years of not having tripe stinky fingers, but have lost the ability to make friends with EVERY dog i meet guaranteed!

good on you for keeping on with him.

Sadly this was the story yesterday.........

A greyhound who stopped eating seven weeks ago has been put to sleep.

Mickeys desperate owners appealed for help form readers in the Northen Echo when their dog stopped eating.

Susan and John from Darlington had tried everything to make the ten year old eat but he had refused all food.

On Wednesday he was taken to another vets practice which was treating him for stomach ulcers.

yesterday however, vets said there was nothing else they could do for Mickey and he was put to sleep.

Mrs. Clayton said 'He was asking to go, he had had enough'

We have had him since he was a pup, and he could sit in the palm of our hands. We are very sad and would like to thank all people who called us and the nurses who looked after him.

Aww RIP Mickey :(
