Fox terrier then the Pom for me. I thought the terrier had that star quality and the Pom was just superb. Must have fitted the breed standard to a tee (sp?), and oodles of charater and confidence with it.

I don't like the idea of them travelling so much, especially where airlines are involved. But conversely and hypocritically, I do love to see the overseas entrants at Crufts because it adds an extra dimension and brings about much needed changes (hopefully helping to bring acceptance of not docking on certain breeds).

I also thought the fox terrier shone above the rest for me - but alas he was second - and I did like that Welsh Springer too  not the sheepdog in my eyes ..... but obviously the judges.

Im sure these dogs that do travel are well accustomed to it probably and maybe even look forward to it. :p

It had to be the Elkhound for me - the owners live very near and are really nice people, they love their dogs, they're treat like dogs and not kept all trussed up for the next show!!

Not sure I can vote as I could not watch it, but obviously I am a bit biased being Norwegian...

I guess they are not very glamorous, but a well-constructed elkhound can be very statuesque and imposing. Does anyone know if an elkhound has ever been in the Crufts finals before?

I am glad to hear their owners are looking well after them. Here in Norway, they are kept almost exclusively as working dogs, but I guess that would be a tall order in Britain!

I thought all the dogs in the final line up were superb.

As all of them should be perfection of their breed standard any one of them would

be worthy of Best in Show.

It is pure preference by the judge on the day, another judge may

have chosen differently.

A bit of a lottery really.

Had you been able to watch it you could have seen Ben Fogle interviewing the dogs owner and asking him what a Norwegian Elkhound hunted. He just managed to stop himself from asking where the dog came from? :b

Well, actually that would be a more pertinent question... There was always some controversy about the nationality of the breed - to be fair, Sweden has as much claim to it as Norway (but don't tell any of my fellow Norwegians I said so ;-)

i thought the fox terrier was superb.excellent head and wicked eye and fantastic movement and he had the x factor, star quality which shone through.i also like the shepherd and the min poodle, ive known the harwoods for years and their dogs are always presented down to the last hair. i didnt think much of the program.wish theyd get rid of the idiots who they have presenting it (not you frank!)and get some real doggy people who would show us more of the breed judging and the best of breed winners.i think too much time is spent asking stupid questions and making daft comments, when we could be looking at what were all really interested in,the dogs! :D

couldn't agree more!

I loved the terrier too, looked every inch the winner! I think Frank is a great presenter/commentator, and think that some of the others this year were awful! The guy on the extended highlight (red button) was especially rubbish, didn't even know how to pronounce most of the breeds - surely they could find another 'Frank' somewhere

oh yeah, thought the pom was a bit of a cracker too :)

Funniest moment was the question about 'when do labs calm down?' His answer: 'my lab's pups were born last year and they're still rushing around now they're two... :- "

Out of interest, chatting to our greyhound vet today, he said 2 of the finalists had a noticeable level of hip dysfunction in his opinion.

Foxy thing for me too.

Yep! We spotted that as well!! Norfolk Terrier wasn't it and it got shortlisted (w00t)

I thought the way the judge went over the dogs was crap, she didn't actually make any real attempt to feel the construction of the dogs and most of them had heavy coats to wade through!!!

Still, I suppose BIS at Crufts is just about the easiest job in the world, it's just a matter of saying "That one!" and pointing to it cos it's whatever takes your fancy and you can't go wrong really!!!

funny enough i was saying that to hubby about not going over them properly, when she was supposedly going over to them at the time

i agree.i did think it was nerves and that shed settle in a bit and give them a good going over but she didnt seem to, to me.(she did spend some time playing with their coats, what was that about! )yes it was the norfolk,it went reserve in the group didnt it.youre right about judging at crufts though, just pick what you fancy eh? ;) but tbh after seeing her judging before i wasnt much impressed anyway.i think you can tell a lot about a judges knowledge of a dog by how they go over them as well as by their placings :- "

I agree with judging of BIS, the judge can't go wrong! I thought that the Aussie out moved everything in the line up. I said to the OH that it would be either the Aussie or the WFT! The Norfolk went group 4th as well didn't it? What did you think of the BIS judges clothes? Can't really say what the OH said  .
