We were having a weekend break in The Lakes this weekend, staying in Keswick. Whilst down by the shore at Derwentwater on Friday evening, taking some photos, look what strolled into my viewfinder.... :- "

This is the second time this year I've seen whippets whilst on holiday. They're definitely getting more common, as I hardly ever used to see any before. It's still lovely to see them though...makes a change from all the border collies, springer spaniels, border terriers and labradors that one usually sees in that neck of the woods....

Oh yes, and here are some of the other shots I took (minus the whippets). It was getting a bit late in the evening with the sun in and out of the clouds, so some of them are a bit dark...

There were lots of geese near the shore:

Then they all lined up and walked onto the grassy bank to feed...

The church steeple...almost lost amongst the trees and hills...

and this was the view from our B&B window on the first evening......

and the view the next morning.. (w00t)

Nice pictures

I'd say there is definately more whippets about, i

seem to see them everywhere.

Nice photos Nicola in spite of the weather! Was the weekend a washout or did you manage some sunshine in between the heavy showers?

We came across a whippet when we were on Gigha (off Kintyre). I was hoping for some pics with M&J but unfortunately it had had a nasty experience when it was young and was very timid. When it saw our 2 coming it hid behind a big rock and eventually made its own way home, which, according to the owner, it does often. Quite safe as the only traffic is the ferry traffic every hour or so, and even that was very light.

Hope you managed to enjoy the weekend in spite of the weather.

It was lovely on the Friday evening. It rained intermittantly on Saturday, but we still managed to get out for a good walk. Luckily, with us staying in Keswick, we just strolled around the town in the afternoon, and I ended up buying a new pair of walking boots (an early birthday present for me even though it was Mick's birthday :b ). We had a lovely evening out catching up with old friends who live there.

We didn't bother with much today as it was lashing it down, but all in all, we had a lovely weekend. It was actually quite sunny in the Peaks when we got back home though

Yes, we saw 3 whippets last week in Shropshire :D and lots of greyhounds which is great because they are my second favourite breed.

We're in Derbyshire now, haven't seen any whips yet but I will be on the look out!

Oooops! edited to say that I enjoyed your photos. I love the Lakes :)

They weren't mine were they?! :- "

When we were in the Lakes a few months ago - we saw 2 rather portly whips at one of the country parks.

I sometimes see whippets or greyhounds when out and about but put it down to being a lover of these breeds so that I really notice them. A lab or spaniel or such I would just probably pass by with out a second glance.

What about this for a co-incidence though? Sitting outside a cafe in Lincoln the other week with Ruby we started chatting to the couple at the next table with their Bedlington. It turned out the lady was the daughter of Dennis Meakin of Oakbark whippets. (Not Julie Meakin but her sister). Such a co-incidence especially as Ruby has a lot of Oakbark blood.

Lovely photos Nicola. The landscape looks a bit like here only with trees.

We don't see many whippets in this neck of the (un)woods - the nearest is about 25 miles away and only comes when his dad is on holiday.

No they weren't although I was on the lookout for yours! The first one we saw was an only dog, the second 2 were blue and black.

We saw a family today who said they had a blue whippet but didn't have it with them :( At first they asked if Lenny was a greyhound! Poor Len has packed weight on since his castration, he isn't very tall but he was hiding under the pub bench so perhaps they couldn't see him properly!

I always whippet spot on holiday :D :- "

The lake pics are great, we are going in the camper in early Sept to Conniston. I spent the weekend in Liverpool, whippet free as John was home with Izzy... didn't spot any either.
