Does Anyone Know?

never!!!! why would they ban it? thats one of the best adds iv seen in a while, cant see any reason for it to get banned

They had so many complaints about cruelty! they withdrew it, so now you know!!!!!!! (w00t)

I thought the non-singing dog looked genuinely scared :( I hated seeing it shaking. Perhaps that's why they stopped running the ad?

was it looking a bit scared in the shops was the idea of it?

not for one min did i think the dog would have actually been scared i just thought it was clever people working there magic on a computer like how they made him sing?

surley they wouldnt have caused any upset or harm to the dog while filming it?

Thats what i thought

I'm sure you're right. It looks like the same doggy - the confident one and the shy one - so perhaps it was all in his training as well as digital mastery.

I thought the nervous dog in the ad looked more than just shy; looked quite poorly to me, as though it was about to vomit. :( Digitally manipulated or maybe not, I felt uncomfortable watching it.

Strange, but it wasn't til you posted that clip, Jade, that I realised I hadn't seen the ad for a while.

I did say to Abbie (animalady) at the time the ad was running that I felt they must have done something pretty awful to that poor little dog to get the shaking and downtrodden look for their marketing purposes

Maybe it was computer mastery, but surely the dog had to be hanging his head with his tail between his legs in the first place?

No computer can be that clever, can it?? (w00t)

It certainly did not look right in the shop shaking and trembling like that...and yes it did look like it was about to vomit...

I hope it was trick photography only...

I think I saw on the news that the dog was trained to stand on a vibrating plate. Funnily enough my vet and I were talking about this ad today and he said that he had loved it!! :)

I thought it was horrible and I'm glad they banned it, all I could think of every time it was on were real dogs who were as genuinely scared as that dog looked :(

The only time I ever saw it Rifle got really upset, crying at the TV etc. I'd like to think it was all computer generated but I can't bear the thought of any dog looking that scared, and more so if it was created for a tv ad.

Well whatever VW's defence that ad would NOT have made me buy a VW polo!! And I've got nothing against VW, my fave car ever was my Golf GTI but I think this ad, whilst the dog singing was so obviously digitally remastered or whatever, I still felt uncomfortable about seeing that dog shaking.

well there are not very many car ads that would make me wont to rush out and buy one, but when i saw this ad, (up untill this post started) i took it as the dog was (digitaly) made to look shy and quite, but in the car it was full of confidence,

not once did i think that the dog was scared upset or mistreated as, firstly there a rules advertising companys have to abide by with animals and a HUGE company like vw i would have thought would have followed the rules,

but secondly as is quite clear from the begining of the ad with the dog is singing right from the start, you are given the knowllege that this is a digitaly edited ad (or what ever it is called) so this why i took it as a clever ad, not animal cruelty.

but having seen this post now and read all the comments so far i can see where most of you are coming from :b

To tell you the truth I couldnt have even told you what the car was thats what impact the dog had for me on the advert, when it first came on I didnt notice the make of car and then I stopped watching the ad anyway so not such a good selling point for them really
