Some of you may know I would love whippet number 2 as a friend for Izzy, but my father who is our "doggy day care" is not buying it. :(

Even OH John wants another :D

I have discovered he has joined K9 as swelg44, because I constantly tell him about the site

I know one whippet or two has been covered as a topic before, but I would really love you to post me some experience and information regarding the ease of keeping 2 whippets to help me convince him he can manage

I would take an older rehomer if this is what you suggest would be easier for Dad? Come on we can convince him :- "

I would let you know but im still a one whippet house at the moment, although

its getting very near to the arrival of my second one

I would say maybe an older whippet would be worth thinking about if your

dad is your sitter.............but no doubt you will get plenty of advice from

those members who have already taken the plunge and added to their

whippy crew's

blue was an only child until he was nrl 1yr old ,then we got ollie who was about 19mth at the time and it was the best thing i ever did blue love him instantly and had so much more fun when out on walks and generaly playing and stuff in the house 2whippets are so much better than one .... but saying that 3whippets are even better than 2 :- " SO COME ON DAD LET HER HAVE ANOTHER ONE , you wont regret it i promis :- " (w00t)

Have to agree with Nicky - we had only ever had one whippet on his own, then when our beloved Ollie passed away we got a pup and had him on his own until he was nearly 2, as soon as we got Merlin we realised just what we were missing, although Iffy had always been a playful and happy dog he was now in his element having his new pal and soon they were inseperable and no more trouble than having Iffy on his own.

GO FOR IT! :D

well what can i say,ive got 5 wonderful whippets that play together in harmony well almost all the time :- " :p and they love nothing better than to curl up together in one mass of whippet bodies for a long afternoon sleep :huggles: .

i remember when we got no 2 and whippet, they had each other to play with and they was very entertaining to watch and it wasnt any harder but so much easier

good luck to you both and hope you manage to get your no 2 very soon :luck:

I had one whippet when I lived at home...1 whippet when I got married :) sadly when Chip went to Rainbow Bridge in 2004 I waited 8 months before deciding to have another one.. :(

:) then along came Oscar and we were going to stay with 1 whippet and mainly because Id never ever had two dogs....thought about having another.......so after a long hard think......when Oscar was 8 months along came puppy Kobi at 10 weeks old.....Ive never looked back and its been so much easier than I ever imagined..I loved having the two of them..... :) :) :)

:) :) Loved it so much Ive now got three...

its just a case of persuading your dog sitter :- " that he can manage two...have you thought about showing him some pictures on this forum :- " especially the puppy threads....

We had one Whippet once ......... Now we have just the 9 :D ......I can honestly say that I don't really notice much difference .....it takes a mere 5-10 minutes extra each day to feed them ........a couple more mins to lead them up for a walk ......the one problem is though I have less room on my bed at night

Hi Ann, I'm taking the plunge soon also with whippet No2. My little Ruby is from the same litter as AnnSa's pup. As you say your circumstances are a bit different but hopefully with some good advice and feedback from these lovely k9ers you may be able to change your dad's mind :- "

Good luck x :luck:

i only have the 1 tia,but would love too have a second????

...I have to agree with what everyone is saying....having two really isnt any trouble...we have several lurchers of different shapes and sizes..and I dont think your Dad will really notice to be fair! Maybe an older one would be more suitable...you know your existing whippey but I think finding one that will compliment your existing one`s personality is more important. I am sure you wont regret it as others havent here either..and just think you existing one will have a forever friend too.... :)

I agree with everyone aswell. I always said that I just wanted one dog. We got Dolly and had her for about a year and then along came Mojo we got him when he was 12wks old. I dont know if it was Dollys influence but we never had a problem with him chewing or destroying anything and they are both so happy together. The love running around the garden chasing each other and cuddling up together. I would now never go back to having one dog. So if you can persuade your dad go for it!!

I've never had just one whippet because I got callie and Sienna together but from my experience of them I would recommend anybody to have 2, whippets love each other's company, I don't think it's any harder with two, mine don't mind being in while I'm out because they have each other :huggles:

I love having four..trouble is I would have more if I could :))

Hi

I concider whippets part time dogs because they sleep so much so you could easly fit in another one. And by what I have seen they all just sleep on top of each other so wouldnt take up anymore space :huggles:

I had been deciding whether to get another whippet for my whippet Rocky and wondered whether to get an older whippet or a puppy??!!!!!

Just so you know, Rocky is 8 years old and we got a puppy just over a week ago who is now nearly 12 weeks old called Bailey and follows Rocky everywhere (which i hope will help with training him lol!!), and like everyone else has said, Rocky has come to life, loves to play and boy do they love curling up together :huggles:

I will be posting some pictures in the next day or two, and its amazing how they quickly they have bonded - its just lovely

I hope things work out for you to be able to get another whippet - I honestly believe you won't regret it at all  Can't wait to find out (w00t)

:) hi go for it, i have a 11 month old and a 14 week old, they are great, so much fun, for me and for them. :) mine are not pure whippies they are crosses, but still go for it, i never looked back. :)

Can you borrow someone's dog for a week and see how it goes? :p

It sounds like your Dad spends more time with your dogs in the week than you do if you both work full time (and I don't mean that rudely or unkindly, just a statement of fact :) ), so your dad's feeling really do need to be taken into account. I think your current arrangements are really commendable btw.

I agree two dogs are better than one though and not much extra work, unless you have a lively pup on your hands. Maybe an older dog?

Good luck...I really know what it feels like to want a second dog/whippet. It eats away at you. But it's horrible if you get it wrong too :luck: :luck:

We had Bobby (Collie X aged eight) and Dolly (Whippet aged three) and although they got on well, they never snuggled up together as Bobby was never keen. I really wanted another whippet, and it took a while before I could persuade the OH. :- "

A few months ago Remmy came to live with us (she was nearly a year old then) and we are delighted with her. All three dogs get on well, but Remmy and Dolly seem to have a special bond. Whippets seem to know their own kind and enjoy the company of other whippets. She fitted in very quickly, and has been no problem. I really enjoy having two whippets, and don't find it any harder than one.

Obviously your Dad would have to be agreeable to you having an extra dog. Maybe getting an older dog might be easier than a puppy.

Good luck with your decision. :luck: :luck:
