Dogs Digging Sofa!

i was just wondering if anyones elses dogs dig the sofa?

mine have now dug a hole in my leather 3 seater and a hole in the two seater

to be honest i want to replace them but im not sure what to buy?

iv throws over both sofas but they still dig!!

luckly iv got a front room that is a 'best' room where no animals are aloud so when people come round they dont have to sit on sofas with holes in them :b

any advise?

Don't get an immitation leather sofa we had a corner suite and in less than 18 months later it all cracked we've now got material ones which have throws on when the dogs are in the room

we had a thiik leather chesterfeild and one of our dogs shrreded it diging so what ever you get try and get some foam and make extra cussions for the dogs tr shread and keep the good ones for complany

Only Colt and Ross dig up the sofa :angry: ,,and a loud NO,,stops them though :thumbsup:

The white boys dig up the dog beds,,,they move them around the room (w00t)

Maybe its a puppy thing with the sofa and both are still under a year :wacko: o

yes teazle does she is just under a year old, so i am hoping that she will grow out of it!!!!

i used to have a very nice green leather suite but now the sofa only has 1 cushion left on it!!! i thought it was just mine, so i am very pleased to find that others have the same problem.

By the time my lovely new leather suite was a week old, my darling Alfie had scratched every single one of the cushions by digging them :rant: And he was 10 years old then- sorry to disappoint you but I don't think they grow out of it as none of my others do it! o

He is now not allowed in the living room when I am out, and if I am in but out of the room I leave a newspaper open on the cushion he likes to dig the most, which is the place I normally sit :- " He doesn't seem to like the feel or sound of the newspaper.

I think they either do it or they don't but if they do it's blooming hard to make them stop. We are on our third settee with Sparky. You can be as vigilant as can be but it only takes a second for him to jump on, scratch twice before you either yell or dive over there and in that time a couple of threads are pulled. Once the first threads are pulled he seems to be able to catch those ones every time. I've tried the lot, yelling, a tap on the bum, putting covers on, banning from furniture, buying loads of different sorts of beds and still at the first opportunity he is up there. It's the way he looks at you when he does it and you yell at him, as if to say, "me, what have I done". I am on a mission and will beat it so I will await other people's experiences and solutions.

I really do work hard at it and so does everyone else, when he does it we quietly walk over, take him off, put him in his bed and turn round and if you are lucky he stays in bed, but he has been known to be back in the corner of the settee before you get back to your place, then we just repeat the exercise hoping that it will eventually sink in.

Dylan has never done it once, he's a turn-a-rounder. He turns round and round until it's to his liking and then he lies down, but he of course has to be banned from the furniture as well.

This all sounds quite pathetic but I do think that sometimes there are dogs who will just not learn, and I'm not sure whether they are very, very clever or just a bit thick.

Merlin does it too - it has improved slightly as he's got older but he still tries to rabbit down our sofa. When he first came to us our sofa's were only 10 months old and he ruined them by pulling all the threads. We tried throws too but he would just rip the throw off. We are now awaiting new leather sofa's and my husband will hit the roof if these get ruined - we thought leather would be more hardy!

Well we went and got x2 two seater sofas with loose covers that seem to stand all the digging.... Sidney will nudge all the cushions about but it is Ben who will dig... goodness knows what he is expecting to find and I also empty the money out of them :lol:

Mine haven't wrecked one (yet) but I do find 'stuff' behind the cushions on the odd occasions that I vacc there - you know the stuff I mean - dog biscuits, doggie toys, socks, manky bones (w00t)

Yes in our experience Skippy digged a hole in our old velvety sofa whithin weeks but touch wood, our hard cotton removable covers have been surviving for 2 years now...

My lot have been good so far and not done this.The only thing that was done was the cushion that came with the suite(new one after Christmas) Beau decided to have a chew on one of them :angry: so i,ve put them away

Fred is 11 and still digs holes in sofas. (w00t) He does it by turning round and round on one cushion, then scratching the cushion as if fashioning a nest around him, circling again, scratching again, until he is completely satisfied he is going to curl up into a very comfy bed of his making. :angry: :- "

We've sent off for quotes and samples to get our settee recovered in a strong, washable cover. Hopefully this will stand up to his 'nesting'.

Our dark terracotta one was from Laura Ashley (some 7 years ago now) and the covers remove easy to wash and on a low heat can be tumbled... the back cushions and seat cushions all remove fine.

I will go find you a photo (photo was taken when we first bought it as I have all the covers on the line today what with it being sunny) :lol:

Don't know about digging, I buy second hand sofas for the conservatory, Dylan destroyed one when he was a pup, I got two really nice ones for £20 the pair, we have one left!!!!!!!!! and the arm of that has been chewed. Thankfully they seem to have given up on it now. But they do dig!

Bloggs-dog is a manic sofa digger - he cannot be left in the sitting room when i'm not there, and is only allowed on the cloth sofa (no animals allowed on the leather!) or his special chair.....luckily he seems to be ok with this rule.

He also kinda responds to a firm 'no' (although I think he thinks it means '4 more didgs til you're done!'

His other fab habit is sofa licking - now that's truly revolting

same as my lot charlie my lot dont dig ,but they all seem to love licking the sofa and chair all of them do it, its a velour fabric sofa and chair i think they just like the feel of it on ther tounge tia will do it till she falls asleep many a time iv sat in wet patches from were they have been licking :lol:
