You know what ....... I am reading through this thread and I've been thinking "what would I do if I was put into an impossible situation when I could no longer be there for my whippies, say terminal illness or a serious accident?"
This has made me realise that part of the benefit of being a K9er, apart from being able to access a wealth of information/advice and meet and make friends with like-minded people all over the UK, is the fact that I now know there are people out there who would look after my girls for life in the style to which they have become accustomed if the worst was to happen to me

While the earth still turns I would never sell or give them away to a stranger and, like several of the comments before mine, I would rather have them PTS than have them face an uncertain future with somebody I don't know :(

Luckily I know I will never have to do this because I have friends who would be there for my girlies :huggles:

Hear Hear!! Sad fact it is something probably none of us even considers before taking on a dog. :huggles:

firstly i would like to commend everyone involved for there support in this case wether it be financial or time etc.
i have spoken to the woman who owns these two dogs and thats why i pulled out .

someone from the board spoke to her early on today who put a few pointers in the owners direction , when i spoke to her she had either taken on board what the other k9 member had said to her or was worried something like this was happening.

in my opinion these dogs are not a genuine rescue case , yes the advert was god awfull and worded in the most deeming way BUT on speaking to this lady it seems the dogs are kept in seperate rooms , go in the garden to toilet supervised and the dog has not mated the bitch .

i think this lady has had the advert twisted by her daughter , i know when the other k9 member spoke to her it seems all she wanted was the £££ and sod the dogs but when i spoke to her she asked all the right questions , asked to see the dogs on a regular basis if i had them etc etc .

so although the advert looks really bad i feel she will now do what is best for the dogs , i think speaking to her has educated her a little and made her realise people do care and she does want a good home for them .

i pulled out because i didnt want her to ring me in 2 /3 months / weeks whatever and me to have to decieve her again or tell her i had given the dogs to a rescue .

this is only my HO  i may have got it all wrong but she has had the wind put up her for whatever reason and i now feel these dogs will be fine

I feel better for knowing that, although I do still worry about the sort of people that advert will attract. We all know how plausible some people can sound, be it salesmen, con men whatever! To those that tried to help, in whatever way, then they can only be commended for having the best interests of these dogs at heart. If those attempts have 'failed' then what can I say, none of us can 'save the world', we can but try and I'm sure everybody involved did so with the best possible intentions. So, no slanging matches, no recriminations, everybody did what they felt was right. :luck: :luck: to these two dogs and let's hope they end up in a caring home.

i agree with you totally on the sort of people the ad will draw  and as you say people can tell you exactly what you want to hear , this woman may not care as much as it appears on speaking to her but the questions she asked and regarding visiting would hopefully put the lesser person off , i too hope that these 2 end up in a loving home , there may be a chance they could still be got to jr whippet rescue if the other person can pull it off

i dont think anyone should stop this work / help as the world is a better place with people like that in it :huggles:

How sad that this has caused so much bad feeling.  At the end of the day, we all care about whippets who are in less than perfect homes.  We all have different ideas of what is a perfect home - mine is a home for life with people who care - they don't have to be raced or shown, as long as they will be loved and cared for.  Many show and racing dogs are passed on if they don't come up to scratch - that to me is heartless, but those people see no harm in it if they find them good homes, yet we all know how stressful it must be for a whippet to be plucked from a home they know and feel safe in, to be given over to strangers and to go to live in a strange place.
Let's not argue about who is wrong and who is right - but agree to differ.  Unfortunately this case is one of many, and although many of us were happy to donate money, it will not stop the ignorance and stupidity of some people who take on dogs, and then get rid when they no longer have a use for them.  I hope these two end up in a kind and loving place where they are safe until their lives end :huggles:

Yet another sensible response, we can't save the world, nor change the way some people think and act, if only life were that simple. :huggles:

Excellent post

if more people cared about animals and their welfare the world would be a much better place. nina dont say you wont get involved again. :( all of us should get involved if we think an animals life is in danger or it needs our help.if you honestly think this woman wont take care of where these dogs go then obviously you carry on and do what you feel is right.ive heard two different opinions about this woman and although no i havent spoken to her i still maintain that i believe these dogs arent in any danger.we cant change the way people think and the way they look upon their pets to some theyre just a means to an end whether its winning in the show ring or breeding puppies.to others theyre their whole life and a world without them would be a world of misery.we cant save every animal in the world.we cant make every owner treat their pets as we want them to.and we cant vet every home that someone else will sell a dog to.if people want to donate and buy these dogs then fine, do it.ive just given my opinion whether its right or wrong.i believe the lady wouldnt let someone go to pick the dogs up on ninas behalf as she wanted to meet the person face to face who was going to take her dogs.to me if she didnt care about the dogs she would have just said fine send the money and your friend can take them.but she didnt.she wanted to see the person and meet them.and she also wants to keep in touch and check the dogs are being looked after.so whether she would have done this before nina spoke to her or whether shes only done this after i dont see what matters.what does matter is that she is now actively going to make sure the dogs go to a good home and that she can check on them and go visit them.she may not have the same criteria in a good home as some of us here might have.but at least she is going to make the effort to make sure the dogs are going to be looked after.

Ok, i'm not going to keep doing the tit for tat, i think this, you think that etc.

Like everyone else i sincerely hope the dogs end up in a safe loving home.

I feel gutted that we could have helped & even more gutted that this has all been made out to be a mistake or something read totally the wrong way & misconstrued.

Yes she wanted to meet the person going to get the dogs BUT at no point did she ask me to keep in touch, whether i planned on breeding them, if they were to be kept in the house or in a shed & she asked me NOTHING.

Her only concern i'm afraid in it all was the money & that she would not even hold them till the weekend whether she thought it was a good home or not, her words to me were "whoever rings first & gets the cash here can have them" which is why it was all such a problem to get that amount of cash to her asap before she sold them willy nilly to just anyone :(

If anyone wants to beleive she suddenly changed throughout the day into the good fairy thats great but unfortunately I DONT.

Its stupid falling out with people, there were so many people so kind & so generous prepared to help for what I & i know other people closely involved knew was not a good situation for these 2 dogs to be in.

I guess we are never all going to agree on what happened here or whether its right or wrong but none of this tit for tat is now going to help those dogs so its pointless.

Goodnight all & god bless the two little ones & watch over them & keep them safe. :luck:

Wow what a suprise to read all this this morning.

I went to bed early last night (stinking headache) and everyone was

doing the best they could with donations and such to help these two

Whippets to find a new home where they would be cared for and not

used for breeding :(

But now the owner turns out to want the best for them and wants to

vet their new owner and keep in touch with them

Mmmm seem's to me she should have checked what the daughter

said in the original advert to start with.

And as the day went on she certainly seemed to change her mind

over what she did want, looks like she just asked the right questions

after she had been contacted by different people over the advert.

No one suggested she was mis-treating these two.........it was more

a case of where were they going to end up after bieng advertised as

'a breeding pair'.

I take my hat off to everyone concerned enough about the two

Whippets that they got off their arse's and tried to help

This is just my thoughts by the way.........plase dont start shouting at me,

i still have the headache ;)

in my opinion these dogs are not a genuine rescue case
Now I saw the original post regarding this and thought here we go again!

reading the post nina put on showing the original ad I have to agree it sounded very iffy but not everyone is good at writing things like that?, also as has already been asked why do some see any ad as a rescue case? the dogs may be in fantastic condition and may of been a genuine case (or may not) but untill someone actualy went around and viewed the dogs concerned nobody would realy know.

I read a post were Maggiemay offord to go around and collect the 2 dogs? so maybe she could of been asked to go round view the dogs and then report back to everyone on the conditon of the dogs, conditions they were kept in and the manorism of the sellers/owners.

that way it could of been decided whether they were a true rescue case or just a badly worded ad? surely if the sellers were so bad theyd of bred a litter from the bitch as shes in season then sold her rather than selling her now?.

anyway I think this threads run its course and is only likely to degenerate into a tit for tat slanging match so i'm going to close it.

but what this thread has shown is there are lots of caring people out their willing to help a genuine case but i'd say make sure the case is genuine before everyone starts sending money in to help?.
