must admit your right there are some folks that really know how toget the best out of there dogs. like vicky says maybe the dog that hasnt done out and comes to a bigun and finds a lot of yards. pretty easy as you usually know 90% of the time the winner of a race. would the gbgb not be able to point us in the right direction concidering a lot are house dogs on %.0 % impossible in whippets . surely labs would be able to tell if a test was excessive.I must agree with this - have always said so-Lots and lots of hours of hard work[/b] /weight/walking/running free/bike work /ball play /feeding /knowing your own dog and how to train it/this is the secret to success coupled with a little bit of luck on the day-with the conditions that suit your dog -Most important in my opinion is having a HAPPY DOG ---that gives you the extra to win--Testing has always got people's backs up, Kenny's right. You have a bunch of people who know that testing has caused this sport nothing but a load of aggravation and has never been carried out correctly.
It's an easy and very naive assumption to make that those who win regularly drug their dogs to do so, much easier for people to think that than to actually give the owners the credit that they know the arse end from the front end, their dogs are fast and that they devote their lives to getting their dogs to perform to the highest of their ability. Dogs being "helped out" in a way to enhance their performance DON'T compete well week in week out and don't have a long successful career, if i was inclined to point the finger it would be a dog that had shown no class and then just turned up and ass whooped everything, NOT one that wins regularly.

if testing took place would folks need to know what testing for  ????? test could show all sorts of things in the screening.sounds a mine field.
also dogs are left in unlocked vehicles wouldnt be the first time you heard of dogs tamtered with, gold run at scotland one year they said it had been knocked ?????little danny was well out of sorts even the vet was unsure????? could be a point to argured in court

but you right about gold run but wasnt it melton? he was excuse the pun bad as a dog
 :thumbsup:In my opinion drug testing is essential to ensure the sport is kept clean. Personally if my dog is winning everything I would want it testing so everyone knows its straight. Clearly though the result from the test would have to be looked at with a common sense view. There is a massive difference if a dog fails wih steroid or massive performance enhancing drugs instead of a anti inflammatroy from a muscle rub. Every case would have to be dealt with on a case by case basis and explained to the members. I wouldn't want someone banned if the substance was from a muscle rub but if its some enhancer giving the dog 5 extra yards then yes they should be banned. I do hope it comes back in though, i mean there has been recent drug test fails in heavily tested sports like boxing!!! so imagine if boxing had no tests, it would be dangerous.

how would it work dee? say a dog got tested and was showing something about how many % would coffee show up?Agree that drug testing should be done if not only to stop dogs been abused by drugs
But it all boils down to cost ...if the 1st test is eighty something pound cannot remember exact amount of the top of my head and it fails then a second screening test is done this cost around thousand pound a time ..then the organizations would be bankrupted in no time ..i know when we tested previously some levels where drawn up with NNWRF and HFL to take into account most whippets live in the house and are family pets..
So to test without any outside help funding i reckon you would be talking a massive increase in membership fees...People that race greyhounds do it professional so if they fail a test they get fined..dont think that would work in whippet racing .
I like most on here, think drug testing should be the norm. Why can't we just do the first test, and if the out come is above the levels set, then dish out a fine, and publicise the results. The if it happens to the same owner 2 or 3 times, dish out some sort of ban. Surely that would go someway to detering folks, who want to abuse their dogs, cause thats what it is,ABUSE,especially if they are masking a dogs injury.

becouse if a steroid was being pumped into a dog would a steroid show a great deal more %??
then surely you can fine or ban a racer, for having a high percentage in the animal? and if that racer wanted to clear his or her name it would be down to them to fund it from there on??
i know its impossible to do it right as the cost just cant be covered, but it would be good to know a % of what the offender had inside there animal??
just really to see what coffee would show up, as i bet like my dogs other pet owners dogs are straight in the cup and sneak the dregs

i'm reading all this and find theres lots of envy??, surely nobody is going to give performance enhancing drugs to whippets ffs are you all mad, the key factor to success, is breeding , and feeding, yes feeding, you dont think top athletes, yes your whippets, can compete at the highest level in your sport being fed on rubbish, now before you all go nuts, i'm not for one minute slagging any one of you, i'm just stating a fact, GOOD trainers have an understanding of the right type of foods these dogs need, others might not, theres also the reason of cost, they maybe cant afford to feed them correctly , the balance has to be right, training programs too, have to be right, GOOD trainers leave nothing to chance, thats why they thrive on their success, by being able to get their dogs in tip top condition for the major competitions, lets all look at it in the right way, these dogs are not machines, they cant race every week at there best, being able to see when theyre not at there best is where GOOD trainers excell, upping their training at the right times along with their feeding , makes the difference between good an bad trainers,-----so bear that in mind
ps.SUCCESS FOR SOME IS ENVY OF OTHERS

some great points there stuart i agree with what you say regarding feeding and breeding and good trainers and theres quite a few in the non peds but still IMO if we keep ignoring the issue regarding drugging dogs for a cup and a few bob it will only get worse ffs its not worth it people have to put there dogs first before there ego.
