Nice to hear this 'non- commercial' tradition is still happening- a family activity, fresh air included! lovely
As to the mess.....I wouldn't be bothered too much about our whippets picking at the remains-I'm sure they pick up worse.

A dog's stomach should be able to cope ok.

Also at least the 'litter' left behind is natural.
You have no idea of the scale of the problem here . There would have been hundreds of people doing this and the mess left behind wiill still be there for 2 -3 weeks . By this time it is all rotten . Also the eggs are decorated and I'm sure eating paint etc is not good for any dog .

The occasional egg is good for dogs but most dogs would just keep eating them until there is no more or they are removed .

I have no problem with people having fun but they should clear up their own mess .

The thing is these families have as much right to roll thier eggs down

the hills as you do to let your Whippets run down them.

I walk my girls on the beach and they find all manner of stuff to eat

and some of it is left by families after their day out. But on the other

hand some of these families find 'presents' left by some dog owners.

In an ideal world we would all clean up our own rubbish/eggs/poo

but it doesnt happen, sadly :(

yes they do ann you are quite right they do have as much right as us to be there,

but it is very annoying when 364days of the year you are there cleaning up your mess, then on easter, (which is the only day of the year the vast majority crawl out there bed to walk up a hill) leave all there mess, it does get on your nerves,

again i have to say i havnt had a problem with it, but hearing nicky and the abuse she got last year from a family for her dogs eating there broken eggs, (which they had walked away from and left) i can see exactly why dog walkers get annoyed.

Mmmmm....Dogs are natural scavengers and should be more than able to cope with a few rotten eggs/shells.

and quote-'dogs will continue to eat them until they have all gone'? Where is the responsible dog owner here-dog not leashed?

Swings and roundabouts-I think- we all have a responsibilty-in an ideal world.

I suppose im more used to it with the holiday maker aren't i,

they arent just here for one day a year. Mmm come to think

of it its a good job someone hasnt come up with that idea....

sand rolling eggs

My main problem is fishermen, some of them really give you

a mouthful if your dog gets to close. And then of course you

get the idiots who leave behind left over bait, old fishing line

and the evil hooks.....often with weights hanging of them. I

know several people who have had big vet bills because of this

and in fact Sada got a hook in the throat down there.

I am responsible , I won't be there for at least two to three weeks ;)

Totally agree Ann. I've not rolled eggs since I was a kid. Reading Hula's post brought back some memories. However we used to make a big thing of it. The eggs were bought fresh, hard boiled and then decorated. After rolling them the eggs were eaten. There might have been the odd little bit left about that you could not clean up but that was all.
