Well, I've just come in after chasing Ella round the neighbourhood
She thought it was an excellent game and I'm sure, given the chance, it will become her favourite occupation :- " - but she's not going to get the chance !!
I was waiting around this afternoon for the vet to arrive to give my mare her tetanus booster. Ella and Jinny were wandering round as usual, checking out the hedges for bunnies and digging things up. I noticed that Ella kept going up on the bank of the hedge which borders our lane and it wasn't long before I found out why
CHICKENS!!!!!!!!! (w00t)
Well - you've guessed it! Ella managed to get through the hedge and set off in pursuit of the chickens across the lane and over the bank into a neighbour's garden. All I could hear was the squawking and flapping noises which chickens tend to make when being hunted down by a whippet (or a fox (w00t) ) and despite my recall training with her, it wasn't going to work this time
Thank goodness, after what seemed like an eternity (but really only 30 seconds) Ella reappeared in the hedge, still intent on hunting down the remaining chicken which had run back towards me. Luckily this chicken had the sense to depart via the route round the garden shed and so Ella found herself trapped on the hedgerow behind the shed - HA!!! GOTCHA!!!!! I grabbed hold of her collar and pulled her back through the hedge whilst quickly removing the mouthful of white feathers that she had managed to get hold of. I think the chickens must be OK as she would have brought one back if she'd got it :- "
I have now mended the hole in the wire fence where she got through (like 'The Great Escape', she must have been working on it a while) and she has crashed out in her bed - so tired she has fallen asleep holding onto her 'fish supper'
Here's the ickle 'eller ........ so innocent - NOT (w00t)
