Have not been able to check the boards much this last week or two, but I didn'tr see this petition to be signed anywhere. it is to ban fireworks except for certain days under public cupervision (I think - I'm not good at all the jargon).

Anyway, here is the address in case anyone wants to sign

For anyone who is fed up with fireworks going off weeks before 5th November, who has pets like mine who get very scared whenever they are going off and for anyone else who simply thinks they should be restricted to organised displays on certain days only, please take this link and sign the petition. You will receive an e-mail response which you will need to click on to finalise the signature. If you agree with the petition, please forward it to all your contacts as well. Thankyou.

Have signed and also passed link on

Thanks, Janet

speaking of fireworks, did anyone else see in the paper about how heather mills, aka lady mucca, alledgedly caused the death of her neighbours weimy last week? apparently, during the £100k birthday party for her daughter, because of the firework display, the dog suffered stress which caused bloating, leading to her death.

also, on friday morning, a group of lads from a local secondary were setting off fireworks down a nearby footpath on my way to school

they may look pretty, but fireworks are the cause of so much suffering, both for humans as well as animals, its time they were completely banned, since age restrictions clearly arent stopping the juvenile delinquents from getting hold of them :(

I wouldn't believe anything those papers gossip about :- " . So much of it is untrue and very unkind :(

We haven't suffered much this year with fireworks around bonfire night :sweating: Touch wood it stays like that. :luck: I'll certainly sign this petition though.

Thanks for posting the link. Here's hoping the petition helps. With so many great organised displays I really can't understand why anyone would want to spend their money on a few for their garden that only last a fraction of the time and which can cause so much damage if something goes wrong. :(

I have signed too

Hope this will stop all private use and the future will be safe for both animals and people :luck:

I have signed...........

I signed too, but I don't think it will do much good. I think to have any weight such a petition would need to be worded differently. This is the reply I had to the one last year:

"Some people have called for a ban on the sale of fireworks to the general public thereby restricting fireworks use to licensed fireworks displays. The Government does not believe a case has been made for such a measure. The proportion of fireworks used in relation to the injuries sustained does not, at present, justify a special regulation to ban fireworks use on safety grounds. Furthermore, there is the potential risk that a ban could lead to a black market in fireworks and could also encourage people to produce homemade devices. Whereas fireworks sold to the British public must comply with strict safety standards (BS 7114), fireworks sold on the black market or those that are homemade could lead to serious and even fatal accidents, which is currently not the norm. There have been no fatalities from the use of fireworks in the UK for more than 5 years.

When used sensibly and with consideration for others, fireworks are a very popular form of entertainment for the majority of the population. Such a measure would be regarded not only as disproportionate, but also draconian."

However there seems to be evidence that there IS a black market in fireworks ( including illegally imported ones like Airbombs for which there is currently a voluntary ban among UK retailers):

Fears over black market fireworks...

Perhaps we should all just video the distress it causes our dogs and send this as supporting evidence to our own MPs. It's difficult to get through to people who don't understand or care the fact it causes does cause distress and also the degree of the suffering.

I suspect there will be people right now down on the common, letting off rockets not far from horses and cattle

Sorry cos I don't mean to hijack the thread - I will sign it, I sign all petitions against fireworks being sold to the public (I support properly organised and advertised public displays, ie the Lions, Round Table, etc) - but I am prompted to say - the government don't mind being "disproportionate and draconian" when they like - ie household waste collections/recycling etc.

But that's a topic for another thread in itself (w00t)

How much money does the government make from fireworks? It would be interesting to know! I've signed the petition.

I've been invited to a firework party next week and was going to go but after seeing the state Freddie was in last night I don't think I can. :( It really upset me! I've done everything I can to help him and Claire, and it has helped Claire, but he was such a mess. After 4 hours I was nearly in tears myself! :(

I've signed. Poor Millie had a kennel burnt down because of a firework last night. Luckily all her dogs now live indoors and her OH used it to store tools etc in, but he's lost all that stuff. Scary.

Found this site after tonight's fiasco with damn fireworks. Okay, we expect them on or around 5th November and prepare but tonight?? Signed the petition after WW3 broke out and my poor 15 year old (just getting over vestibular syndrome) ended up lathered and vomiting.

I`m just going to sign in a moment...Just wanted to reply first. Here in Lincoln we had a huge bonfire/ firework display on FRIDAY on the showground, then another SATURDAY, another on SUNDAY and MONDAY and TONIGHT !! We are fed up with it all, it never seems to stop.

Most of my dogs don`t mind but Rosie hates them and it comes to the point that we dread bonfire night and New Year...Which is exactly the same. The one night is fine and lovely for the kids but it goes on for days on end !!! It has to stop !
