Well, after nine years of making do with the wallpaper in our lounge (we just gave it a quick paint job when we moved in), we decided it was time to get rid. We've spent the last few days stripping off the blasted stuff (we did have a rather nice break in The Lakes over the weekend to break up the tedium a bit :) , but it was back to decorating today). It was no easy task as there was the usual two layers underneath to peel off too. :sweating:

Fred didn't seem to mind the chaos too much, as long as he had his chair to sit in... :p

Even when we moved the chair and covered it with bin liner, he still insisted he wanted to lie in his chair...

Stan was rather bemused and popped downstairs every now and then to check progress...

This is what it looked like before. Here is an old photo from four years ago when we first installed our open fire place (we had to pull out an old gas fire and backboiler):

We've finally finished the paper stripping this afternoon. It's been a really tedious job....now for the painting -_-

Sorry about the rubbish photos...just took some quick snaps for posterity :)

Bless him  . Of course, what you really need is a whippet who joins in. Can anyone lend them one?

Aww just look at him fixed firmly in his chair bless him..

Good luck with the decorating Nicola...it will all be worth it in the end..

...at least you left him a chair, unlike some mean whippet owning decorators

Fred has a very pained expression on his face in some of those pics - bless his handsome little self

aww fred bless him,he obviously loves his chair :huggles:

i loathe stripping wallpaper it makes such a mess, so glad youve got the worst job done and all plain sailing now  you will have to show us what it looks like when youve done .

  Fred looks as though he is staying put no matter what is going on around him. :))

Looking forward to seeing photos when you have finished decorating. I love your fireplace - it is really gorgeous.

Well, congratulations!!!! You've done a grand job there :D

Bless Fred, it's his chair and he's sticking to it

Good luck with the painting! Can we look forward to a multi-colured whippet? :-

Lovely pics, Nicola - I just love Stan's expression! Typical min!

Bless him, typical whippet! We are stripping wall paper too at the moment (only one layer but its the hallway so its very difficult with our silly high ceilings which I love until its time to decorate  ), Molly is content with letting us get on with it but Lenny has to be 'in on the action' chasing all the bits of paper around. We have just finished painting the living room, Lenny found it great fun to stand directly between my face and the wall when I was trying to paint the low bits :clown: then he tries to jump up the ladder when I'm doing the high bits!

can lend them the 2 at bottom (w00t) on second thoughts I can lend them 3 their mums just as daft I'm having to decorate because they decided to start stripping when they happened to come across a little piece that was coming away near the door

Thanks for your encouraging comments about the decorating. We're still doing the prep work today. I'm sanding down and the OH is still polyfilling the holes, of which there are many. To be honest some of the walls could do with reskimming, but we're so fed up with it now, it's just going to have to do. It's an old house, built in the 1890's so we'll just have to get used to the lumps and bumps in the wall. I can see why the last owner put up the heavily textured wallpaper

At least it's raining out, so it's not as if we could be out and about doing anything else. Fred and Stan are inclined to agree ;) :p

Same age as our house and by the sounds of it, same state of walls :( After the paper is off we are just painting, quote for a reskim was £350 which we ain't got at the moment.

 aww bless him ,uncle fred your one handsome boy

Aww bless, he looks so cute and comfy curled up on his chair :huggles: He is such a gorgeous wee boy
