Free Range Chickens

Ive always bought free range eggs, but im ashamed to say i havent always bought free range chicken :b not for the reason by any means that i dont care...I just didnt realise that the birds where kept in those conditions. Im so pleased that the recent programmes have highlighted all this and from now on i will def ALWAYS buy free range :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Just a few questions though now ive been thinking about this in more detail.....

Its simple enough buying whole chicken, but how about chicken pies/chicken nuggets etc etc?? Do we just boycott and not buy? as i presume the chicken in these will be battery ones?

and what about if you're eating out? surely the chicken in dishes in pub meals and restaurants are not free range? Is everyone going to stop buying takeaways too? :unsure: :unsure: :unsure:

Oh, and another one...sometimes i buy 'Barn eggs', are these from hens leading a happy life? I always thought they were but now this has all come out im thinking maybe not?? :wacko:

the way to stop the manufacturers adding these types of chicken to pies,curries etc is to ask the supermarket whats in them.that was theyll demand that the supplier use only frree range cos the customers are asking for it.if the demand is there for something dont worry the supermarkets/restaurants will supply it to be safe i always buy either free range or organic.theres so many labels now like freedom food etc it gets confusing for the customer. :wacko:

Barn Hens are kept in slightly better conditions than caged ones (large Barns) ....at least they have room to move around and have perches.....but I dont think they see daylight ....

Asda have got a offer on 18 free range egss for £2

The Country Market local to us does 6 for 70p - 18 for £2.10 - I don't know if they're free range but on the small scale that they were available I hope so as they're lovely :sweating: . I think I'll ask when we go on Friday.

(They also do lovely pies, carrot cake and parkin it's known as the WI market locally the ladies make lovely pastries).

Heres my chickens (Toffee and Fudge), havent had chickens for long but i adore them and the eggs taste much better, and i always tried to buy free range before i had them...They lay two eggs a day

I would recommend anyone if they have the room to get some

awwww :wub: Id love two chickens but worried about how the whips woul dbe with them. Obviously i wouldnt let them out with the chickens but think they'd be fixated on their run all the time :wacko: How are yours with them?

We got our at the end of last summer

Bow thought they were dinner on legs for a while but now they're fine with them

Now i can have the hens free roaming with the dogs... supervised

The dogs are interested in the poo than anything else....yuk

when i had mine my dogs used to walk around with them and they never once attacked them.in fact my dobermann stud dog grew up thinking he was a chicken cos he used to eat the corn with them!i gave them back to father in law as theyd started laying and hatching little baby chicks(daughter was gutted!)but i couldnt take the 3 am crowing!
