I would suggest that you take the dogs for two walks a day, even if the second one is just a quick 10 mins round the block before bed. Dogs need a change of scene/smells and a stretch of the legs. If you are serious about rehoming then you must consider that it will be a stressfull situation for both dogs and that issues may arise from this. It's not as simple as "remove the problem".

Whatever you decided to do, I wish you the best of luck  :luck:

Good advice. If you can spare your usual hour for dog walking out of a day, why not split it and do two lots of 30 mins with lots of obedience training and mental stimulation built-in? 30 minutes of quality is better than an hour of just walking and free running

There's some excellent advice on this thread. TC: brilliant and well-thought-out  lots of good ideas!

Hiya,

I'm sorry that you feel as if you have to re-home Monty.

I feel that finding a home for him, where he will get an hours exercise everyday, the company of another whippet, and someone who works from home so allows him free access to the garden will be very difficult to beat! You sound like you are a brilliant home - - unless you can find someone who works outdoors and will be able to let him potter about with them all day, and the chances of that are slim IMO.

I agree with TC, get up a bit earlier and take them for a half hours walk before you start, then again at lunch time - it will force you to have a break and clear your mind anyway. (I work from home with my lot and that's what I do) kong toys, bones, and toys that they can play with together -ie raggies etc may all help if you haven't already tried them.

A friend of mine re-homed her young male whippet for similar reasons, she's the first to admit it was a mistake, the dog is no happier elsewhere, and it had an awful impact on the whippet that was left behind, to the point that she ended up having to get a second whippet again.

Although sad, this is an excellent post Rae

Sorry I was out all day. I pm'ed everybody who wrote to me now (I hope  )

Thanks to the many people here who are offering help and advice

We got zeb when he was rehomed. I agree with what has been said, He loves his kong, raw hide bones, treat balls,He also has a cube that you can put food into. If you look up knogs, there is a site were you can get ideas for filling them.(off hand cant remimber the address)

When we first got him he was a right night mare, now that he is 4 he has finally starting to calm down (ok any alittle)

I also agree that giving him a late walk does them same good, wears zeb out for the evening.

Hi Lily,

Just wondering how things were going?

Hi Lily,

Someone on the "Whippets-Showing" forum is looking for a second whippy. You might want to get in touch with them.

What excellent advice offered on this thread  .... I can see where lots of you are coming from.... now having three whippets myself - they do take some tiring out, I would be the first to agree and can run you ragged. Bones more so than pigs ears do make a brilliant distraction - keeps them busy for ages, and of course lots of playing too.

Good luck with your dog, I hope you feel you can maybe give him another chance and see if things settle down.

Hi everybody,

Sorry for the late response, been very busy with work.

I'm very hopeful I have found the right home for Monty.

I am now waiting for references to be sent to me and if it all goes well then Monty will go there for a 2 months trial soon.

In that time I'll see how we all adjust to the situation. I also want to make sure my other dog is happy being an only dog.

it's early days yet but the home I found seems like the dream home for him and I really hope it's the right decision :(

Thanks again for all your help

thank you for keeping us posted , glad you seem happy , good luck to monty :luck: :huggles:

Hope the trial goes well on all sides :luck:
