Just plucked up the courage to measure Guto as he is now 6 months old, and has shot up in the last few weeks and very, very leggy (w00t) (Our vet's comment was 'excellent long levers'). I know they often don't grow a lot after 6 months, but as usual I'm worrying he will be very tall   . He is 18 1/2".

He was throwing the stick for himself (w00t)

What lovely pictures of Guto

The 2nd picture is adorable

Will you be showing him? or racing him?

 He's just lovely.

Ruby didn't gain much height between 6 months and now (she's 8 months now) she's just filled out a bit! But I guess they're all different... we bought her her winter coat at 6 months and added on a couple of inches to the length but it's still a bit long which handily is very cosy over the backside!

I'd be surprised if he ended over 20", but ask his breeders how their Whippets grow :luck: :luck: :luck:

His 1/2 brother, Coby, who is also by Jasbri First Night, didn't grow any more after 6 months, he just filled out a little. Not sure how tall he is but certainly not overly tall. Guto is growing into a handsome boy.

Hi There, Lovely Pics all,

Our Boy Kai

Was around 18 1/2" at 6 months and is now about 21 1/2"

Not sure if this helps, but tall or not as tall your whippie is lovely :))

I wouldn't worry, he looks a bit out of proportion after a growth spurt, I am sure the rest of him will catch up with his legs soon (w00t) . He is looking very nice Elizabeth, you must be pleased

Yes, I am very pleased, he has been a lovely puppy (despite mangling my propelling pencil last night as I was posting :- " ). He has always been consistently tall though, something our (greyhound) vet commented on straight away, positively I'm glad to say. He has a lot of length in the pasterns for instance, I'm wondering if this is just his shape. He's also very flexible, he's more like a cat when he's draped over your knee.

Not that height matters greatly, but I'd been assuming we'd give him a go at racing later on.

Debbie, do you have any photos of Coby?

I also wonder about my measuring skills. :b Measuring Gelert I've got various results, from 19 1/2 to 20 1/2" from the pencil across the shoulders/mark on the wall technique. I blithely told Betty Beaumont he was oversize (for coursing) and she said I was wrong, he'd almost certainly be under and I was getting a misleading result as he always hunches up the minute you touch him. :b

OSCAR has turned out quite 'tall' for a whippet at 22" - but it dosnt bother me in the slightest - hes my boy and beautiful  I dont show - not sure what you have in mind for Guto - will it affect his racing at a taller height? - unsure

Hes gorgeous anyway... o:)

Well, he's definitely still got some growing to do because he still has 'knobbly' knee joints. Once they flatten he will have stopped growing upwards.

I know what you mean about the varying results Elizabeth (w00t)

Oliver was measured when applying for his passport, and then I jokingly said about measuring Jacob, as I didn't think for one minute that he would be under 21" and hoped he was only a smidgeon taller :b

Low and behold, they got the frame out and he went under :sweating: just goes to show that they can be deceiving (and I definitely think that lighter dogs are at a disadvantage as they always seem to appear bigger to me)

I'm not sure if BSFA have a frame that you could use at the next meeting, I know it's a way off, but at least you'd know

Ooohh...I could eat him whole. Doesn't he have the most delighful expression and the gangliest of legs.

I would have thought he had a little bit more growing to do as well, as he's only six months. I'm not very experienced though, so can't say for sure. Just wanted to comment on his general loveliness. :)
