Thank you. Lol, none really it’s just how I describe him, the breed can be a challenge, but he’s 4 years old now and has tested me along the way, but he’s a very good boy nowadays.....mostly !

this is a portuguese waterdog, yours doesnt seem very "lookalike". but it could be the picture or the grooming....

I'm sure it's a matter of grooming. He looks like the PWDs on this site: portuguesewaterdog :)

I’m not sure if you are being intentionally rude or not in questioning the parentage of my boy, but I can assure you he is what I said, he has shown and been placed at crufts for the last 4 years of his life, I am sure those judges would know a PWD when they see one. The picture you have posted is. PWD in a retriever trim, I am assuming you are in the US,as they will show them in such a trim. I am in the Uk , where we show our dogs in full coated lion trim, this is the traditional cut that would have been used by the fishermen, in the UK and Europe including Portugal, we stay true to breed standard and clip only the face and hind quarters leaving the rest of the coat untouched. It might help you to google the breed to get a more objective view of the breed . The pet/ retriever trim only applies In Europe if you keep them as pets only . I hope this helps !

Yes it is all down to grooming, as stated above we in the UK do not trim the coat into a retriever /pet trim o show, it is ONLY the US that allows a retriever trim they also scissor their lion trim into a short coat, anywhere else in the world they have to be as natural as possible aside from the traditional backside and muzzle.

I guess this is a issue for you. I just stated what I saw, you need to relax.
And, I'm not from the USA, I'm from Portugal, I saw those dogs all my life and the traditional cut here, is with the back fully trimmed, on the "face" too, the rest fully grown. The position your dog is in, plus the grooming, made it look a lot smaller and "different", more like a poodle. I was not being rude, just made an observation. you may not like it, but it was just a simple observation, I said "it could be the grooming". Again, You need to relax

its no issue to me if you did not recognize the breed, I just thought your tone was rather rude telling me he was not like a pwd and showing me what you think they should look like, the highlighted is what I said, it is the traditional clip here to, which is what he is in...... he was laying down not standing up , why you would show me a picture of a US dog in a retriever clip as breed standard when as you say, you know the breed seeing them all your life, surely a portie in full coat laying down would not have been misleading for you, anyway, we now have that cleared up, we will leave it there.
