please help....... Faith is driving me mad with eating any of my other dogs poo, she cant even wait for them to finish pooing before she trys to eat it. its disgusting and im sure it cant be healthy for her.

all of the dogs are wormed regular and are fed on a good quality racing mix, green beans and pasta. Faith is 18mnths old and has always been a bit partial to poo but just of late she seems to have got worse.

Ive tried shouting at her and chasing her away, picking it all up before she goes outside to do her business, and all sorts of other stuff.

PLEASE HELP.....

why do they do it and what can i do to stop her?

:x :x :x

thanks for that advice, much appreciated!

Add tomatoes or pineapple chunks to all of your dogs diets daily .... Thats meant to stop them :luck:

sarah we tried everything and nothing worked to stop finley :( he likes it hot from the bot :x

must say hes not as bad as he was so maybe hes growing out of it now

i would love advice about this aswell...as Bows eats peggys poo BUT doesnt eat it if they are fed raw/bones diet which i do mainly but at times they have dry , but this doesnt been that every dog has this diet and Bow will eat other dogs because its tastes tasty to her...ive tried everything...just gotta watch her like hawk while out

all my dogs have a pineapple chunk or two a day...it stops bluebell from doing it and seems to be breaking the habit

The scientific term for this behaviour is coprophagia and it is a surprisingly common and natural behaviour that has many of its origins with your dog's ancestors. There are two main reasons they did this. The first was for reasons of hygiene in the communal den. The adults would ingest the stools of their puppies in order to keep the cramped den area clean and remove odours that could attract predators. The second reason, although controversal, was for the nutritional value of stools which can contain vitamins B and K.

There are tables available to help stopping them ...think they are called "Deter"

thanks for all this info, it all interesting.

wonder what it is that stops them from eating poo if they have been fed pineapple or tomatoes? obviously something to do with the digested smell of pineapple as opposed to undigested pineapple (im guessing this due to the fact they will eat 'fresh' pineapple but not touch the digested pineapple)

unless of course there is some vitamin/etc in the pineapple that satisfies the same 'need' as those vitamins etc in poo...... think i may be confusing myself now!!

Its the enzymes in pineapple that make poo distasteful to eat...as if it wasn't distasteful enough already

or you could try one of them citronella collars not harmful at all , you have remote controll and press when your dog is just about to do the dirty deed and the collar just sprays them with a citron spray, will do the trick in no time

thanks for that Debbie, i'll have a look and see how much these collars are, will prob just try the pineapple at first tho

yes the tablets are called deter and they do help give it to the other dogs but not the one who is eating the dirt. :luck: :luck:

Hmmm...not very helpful to others.....

it sounds to me that your dog might be lacking a certain vitamin.that is why he chooses to eat poo :x . give him a pot of natural yoghurt and that will put the vitamin back that he is missing .it should stop aswell as i had a dog that done the same  sarah
