I'm coming to the end of a short OU course in Digital photography and have to submit a panel of 10 photos. I've got 5 definites but don't know which other 5 to choose out of the following photos. We are marked separately on Technical Quality and Visual Awareness, but they are also looking for photos with impact. So, any comments welcomed!

1. Converted to B& W and put back the colour of the yellow flower.

2. Not pin sharp, but I do like the movement on this one.

3. Orchid

4. Converted to B&W and infrared filter added.

5. Taken on the Kintyre peninsular

Thank you

That first picture is stunning Gillian

I love the action shot of Jonah.

And there is something very appealing about the

Giant's Causeway picture.

they all really good, and i dont know much about photography.........but my fav's are........1,4,5 and 7

i like no1 and i like the depth and colour of no5

1, 4, 5 ,6 9, and 10.

i think the steam one is great, as is pic 1

1, 4, 5, 9 and 10 :luck:

4 and 9 are my faves but I'm a sucker for black and white (could explain why Roscoe got a home with us when we only went to buy Grover :D ) Love the drama of 4 and the evocative atmosphere of 9.

1, 4, 6 & 9 for me Gill

Number 1 is stunning in every aspect and satisfies the requirements, I think, very well indeed :)

Number 4 I love because of the black and white and also the sheer isolation of the shot

Number 6 has an flavour and blend of natural colour and depth which I don't think I've seen the like of before

And number 9 reminds me of the style of pictures my grandpa used to take :D

He was an amateur photographer and only worked in black and white.

He had his own dark room for developing and I used to help him when I was a young child, seeing the picture appear gradually as I rocked it gently in the developing fluid was magical.

In addition to my memories it is also an excellent shot in it's own right ....... as Esty has already said - very evocative

I know that's only 4 but they are all superb pictures and it is very hard to choose between them!

Good luck with your final selection :luck: :luck: and let us see the completed portfolio, please :)

number 1 i love, jonah flying and the very last one

Thanks everyone so far. This is really helpful. I've added the votes up on the 3 forums that I've put this on and so far Nos 1 & 9 are in the lead, closely followed by 6 & 7.

5,6,7,9 and 10 there my faverets.

love them.

No 1 & 9 for me, with 6 coming a close runner up. I think the path leading to the stones from the corner of the photo just detracts very slightly (it's good to have a lead in but it shouldn't come from the corner of a photo), and it's possibly a bit narrowly cropped, but the colours and composition are nice.

All nice photos though...hard to choose.

Think this is Wonderful (w00t)

Could look better without the longdiagonal grass stem and/or cropped slightly IMHO

CumbriaMarch200810-1.jpg

Dogs running into the photo and the water then takes the eye to the sunlit cottages - very nice.

Would look better with some 'feature (sky? ) ' in the hole similar to the one on the Kintyre peninsula.

The rest - though good as pictures - don't have that extra 'something' for me :huggles:

Number 9.

Number 1 is gorgeous too but my eye's a little detracted by the white flower. If you can't re-take the shot with the solitary flower I'd possibly rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise and colour the other flower in too. It might work, it might not, I'm no expert.

All your other photos are lovely too but I feel number 9 stands out as pro quality, I hope no-one thinks I'm being overtly critical, I'm extremely critical of my own and if it's any consolation, I recently entered a photo comp and out of the thousands of action shot's I've accrued, I only submitted 3. :b

Edited to add, I quite like 6, it meets the law of thirds and the path brings the eyes to the stones.

Wishing you the best of luck :luck:

What Nicola said!! I do laugh as we have quite similar tastes!

i think 1,2,6,9 and 10.

although pic two is not perfectly focused there is a feel to the picture which i like.

the others i chose also have a feel about them...a picture doesn't necessarily have to be to someones taste but it has to have an impact upon the viewer and all the ones i like actually make me feel something about the pictures whereas the others are just good pictures.

sorry it makes sense to me tho

I totally agree!

1, 5, 6, 7 and 9 for me (although they are all really good). What's the course called (or its code) from OU? I think my OH might be interested.

Would love to see the other five you're submitting too :D
