Ok Doris, you now have no excuse! :- "

I am going to the Houndshow so you could drive up to me- just around the corner from Jan- and I'll drive up there!

How's that? I know you'd love the Houndshow- it's definitely different to the other champ shows.

Liz and the Monellis

 Ok I've decided that I will order a PROPER cake and get Maurice to take it to the show as he is stewarding, then that way  Pedro will have a proper surprise, I'll also put some sarnies together of various types. He won't be too suspicious because I'll get him to think it a rerun of Crufts, and I'll bring my patio table (white plastic thing we use in the caravan really). I'll bring some wine which should encourage lots of people to join us.

So if anyone else would like to bring something along then we can have a good party. Pedro is supposed to be at work the day before, so I'll get him put a holiday in.

Better go and post the entry now otherwise all will be lost.

 So take this as an invitation to all K9'ers, you're invited to the party.

YEH !!! Good on yer Jan

.

Will def be there too , Where ever food is Im not far behind o:) Cant decide who or if to enter

sounds great, thanks for offer! only now I've got a new excuse - I've just started doing some hours at weekends in our local rescue kennels (chiltern dog rescue), I spent all of last Saturday there to see what it was like, they called me on Monday and today it was my first offical shift - but I'll see if I can book it off, cos I wanna go!!!

:p Dawn, how could you even suggest that Maurice might eat it before we get there? :- " Now if I let him take the sandwiches, then you would have a point, cos he's a savoury not sweet (well he is a sweetie) chap.

Anyhow he'll take delivery of said cake very seriously indeed. Which means it'll get there in one piece, cos if I took it, it would

a) get nibbled at

b) get dropped en route to the benches etc

c) get forgotten

oh poop, I was just about to contact Liz and accept her offer of a lift, quickly checked diary to find that I got a hen night on the 6th!

its a family friend and we've all paid £30 for a thames disco cruise so can't really back out now

have a great time everyone - perhaps I'll actually meet some of you at Crufts :(

good luck if you are taking part :luck:

thanks for the offer Liz

I know someone will take pictures - I look forward to seeing them!

I think EVERONE should go to the Hound show on August the 6th , Wether you are entering a dog or not , :- "  It would be great to meet up on a nice sunny day  :luck:
All you people who are new to showing  and even those who arent  ;)   lets GET TOGETHER .

BTW if your dog isnt entered you cant bring it , :(   just in case some of you had thought about it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry  KC regs and all that

Jax, don't take this personally but I'm blaming you for EVERYTHING ( I have to, I'm a scorpio (w00t) It couldn't possibly be my fault)

This seemed like such a cool idea at the time, and I didn't hesitate and booked my pups in thinking all would be wonderful, I'd have gone to ringcraft classes for a couple of months, and would have done a few companion shows. All would be well, we would have a lovely day out and it would all be good experience for me and the dogs.

All I can say is :b  (w00t) :( :nuke:

I went to three classes before I became incapacitated for what seems like forever, during which we caused absolute chaos :b Have entered not one show to get any experience :- " and have two hooligan puppies whose devilish antics are scaring the life out of me

I have felt much better these last two weeks and am almost managing to walk in a way that resembles a normal human being over short distances (w00t) and have been practising with Jake as much as possible. However, I have come to the conclusion that he is going to wee on the table, frantically lick the judge, and cause absolute chaos (even if we make it round the ring, I'm not sure that the judge would see him anyway as she won't be able to stop laughing at what I look like!

The sad thing is is that I didn't want Ollie to miss out, so in a mad moment entered him in a class as well (w00t) He walks lovely and stands quite well as well, but bless him, I'm sure everyone will wonder why on earth I paid to enter him.

So now I need help and advice from anyone please.............

Do I come along and bring the dogs but not enter (would it be frowned on to pull out at the last minute)

Do I compete with Jake and give everyone a laugh ( He is entered in Minor Puppy Dog and Puppy Stakes as I felt so good about it at the time and when I spoke to the sec she asked if I was going to put him in "the stakes" ) Just to give you all even more of a laugh I have no idea what is involved in the puppy stakes but thought I would ask on the day (everyone I've met in the whippet world has been fantastically helpful in the past!) I am even more scared after reading that the MPD class is HUGE on another thread today

Do I go the whole hog and totally embarass myself and let Ollie have his go in PD as well.

Answers on a postcard please (w00t) I'm running out of time.........

Hi Tracey

Dont worry they are only babies and I am sure they wont be the only ones that act like puppies. Just enjoy the day with them.

Mine are 15mths and still act like minor puppies in the ring in fact their mum still has her moments and she is 4 (w00t)

Seriously dont worry no one expects pups to behave like adults, just go in the ring with them and enjoy it.

As for the stakes classes there will be other breeds in the class not just whippets.

Dawn,

Thanks for such a lovely reply. Not sure whether Millie and Dessie would agree as they have first hand experience (w00t)

There'll be no hiding who I am from all the K9er's now will there, unless someone else is walking like John Wayne and is completely incompetent

Tracy . ,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pull yourself together , get the dogs in the car , drive to the hound show , and well see what we can do with you :- " , Now the fact that you are in the first class (w00t) dosnt give us alot of time to calm you down and get you and your dogs trained up . BUT even if you make a hash out of the breed classes  Im sure we can get some improvemnet for the `stakes ` Practise makes perfect

so see you Sat WITH the boys

God Jax, I've just spilt my cup of tea all over the laptop!!!

The dogs will be coming no matter what  They love meeting other whippets and have already told me how much they're looking forward to it :- "

As for the time to prepare, EXACTLY, I'm not even going to get a chance to watch the experts for five minutes  Believe me I'll be at the back of the queue, but then I panic and think, Oh God, what if he gets bored and starts play bowing at the perfectly behaved pup next to me??!!

Thanks for the pep talk. I'll be reporting for duty!

Mine are in mpd and mpb only their second show and they are very naughty . they will probably be looking for each other and not behaving at all

Thanks so much for the support, but it sooooo scary. I wouldn't mind so much if I wasn't going into a ring for the first time with so many blooming professionals (w00t) At least all of you know how to stand your dogs properly, poor Millie and Dessie, they did try :b

I think that I'm just going to go with the flow, and at least I can rest assured that some devious person will capture it on film so that i'll get back and can relive it all over again (w00t)

Can't wait to meet everyone though, that is one good point :D

Hi Tracy - please rest assured that lots of us know exactly how you feel - it is quite unnerving to be 'on show' in front of lots of people who have been doing it for ages - but not all of them have, and everyone had to start somewhere!

At a champ show recently, I was walking past the rhodesian ridgeback ring, and a beautifully turned out competitor started to run round the ring with her beautiful but VERY KEEN hound - in a split second, he ran a bit too fast, pulled her over flat on her face, she held on for dear life, and he dragged her face down on the grass back to the judge!!! (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

Now that WAS embarassing, but it is safe to say that most of us watching were thinking ' thank God that wasn't ME!!!!!' :b :b :- "

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday, with my dog who behaves beautifully sometimes, and like an absolute little   at others, and I never know which it is going to be till I get there!! :b  :- "

GOOD LUCK :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

 And I'll bet more than one person captured it on camera too! :b

DAWN Don't age them more than they already are!! They're not quite 14 months!! They grow too fast already ROFL.

Tracy - my first show was a Champ show - don't worry about it - at least you know a lot of us. I knew about 2 people and felt like an absolute idiot! The 2nd show (also a Champ Show) Savvy kangaroo hopped round the ring with Richard and Dawn (breeders there) and her sire's owners there as well. Their comments when I came out of the ring was 'What a naughty girl - she's definitely her father's daughter'

Talk about pressure though LOL

Wendy

My advice albeit from a newcomer is to go and give it a try.

Rebels first champ show i nearly didnt go but people convinced me that i'd paid my money so im bloody well going!!!!!

He misbehaved, i looked a complete novice (which i was) and Alfyn and Ozzy were watching, i was a complete nervous wreck (w00t) but im glad i did it as it gave me a bit more confidence and at least if you make mistakes in front of the more worldly K9'ers, they would give you some good advice and you'll be that much better next time.

Dont worry, everyone was in ourshoes at one point and its not something that you can learn overnight, no matter how easy it looks.
