I've decided that now I have my own show dog that I should have my own kennel name, after all, Monty may be a Bluestreak dog, but he's MY Bluesteak dog :p :D

I applied for Walkmoore, cos WALK is our initials, Moore is Wayne and the boy's surname - but it was declined cos it sounds too much a name already registered :(

Then I asked for Sunwalk, after Sunny plus our initials, but thats been declined too

I thought of Lewkiersun, first part of my boys names plus first part of Sunny, cos he was our first whippet, but everyone I showed it to laughed their heads off and asked how it was pronounced and what was it supposed to mean, so thats a no-goer  :b

I'm so frustrated now that I'm even looking through the dictionary  but, being quite childish, I'm looking up words that I know the kennel club won't allow (w00t)

Anyone know of any sites where I can put in my favourite words and it comes up with suggestions?

No idea for site sorry - but I remember when Jo was applying for her affix, she had about 30 turned down; Citycroft was when we really couldn't think of anymore.

Hope you don't have the same problem!

How about Sunrise....or Sunset at the beginning.. or something like that... :)

how about WALSUN your 3 initials then sun at the end for sunny ??

just play around with initials / names etc untill you find one , submit a few and eventually one will be accepted !!

Try some of those.

I was emailing a lady at the KC in batches of 6 names at a time. I was shocked when finally one was accepted!

Think of a few possibilities at once, then it isn't such a frustrating process. Good luck :luck:

Hi Karen, if i remember correctly our affixes can only be a maximum of 12 letters long and have to be one word. Just to make it even more difficult to find one!! :)

Oh, well, then you can always abbreviate "Mount" as Mt

But you know, I would find it tough as I got my kennel name the old fashioned way--I inherited it. ;)

The AKC will let you have the same kennel name as another breeder so long as it's not already registered, and most kennels over here don't bother to register their affix. Usually, as long as it is in very different breeds, nobody minds. You don't have to register anything, just start using it and if it turns out to be someone else's, they (or their friends) will certainly let you know about it. In the computer age it's easy to check for duplication.

I'd be a bit annoyed if someone else started using Surrey Hall or Slurry Hill as a kennel name in Whippets over here, but there wouldn't be a damn thing I could do about it.

I'm having a look at the letters you gave Alison,

Rookmawle

Lewmarook

Marlekoow

Woolmarke

I'll have another try later.

Theres nothing wrong with LEWKIERSUN :D :D

want to apply for mine next but theres only one i want! want ! want! want! :teehee: cant see the point in picking something when you dont really want it :( so id rather wait a while till something else springs to mind if not, Maybe you could do that Alison? Like when you forget a name of something i find it always springs to mind when you stop thinking about it! - why not wait awhile if you cant come up with something you really like and maybe one day it will just hit you? Hope that makes sense

What about MORESUN, we could certainly do with some!! Try to pick something made up, not a name as such, you are more likely to get it.

Sunnymoore

Sunlewmoore

Walksulew

Sulewmoore

:)

What about Montsunrise, Sunshinemont, Shinemoore, Sunmoore, :luck: Good luck in your hunt am sure you'll come up with something

 sorry walksun then :D

I knew you'd come up with something Jenny

thanks for suggestions everyone, just what I needed to get my brain working again

The Kennel gazette used to list any vacant Affix which was up for grabs , maybe you would see something you liked there .

We ended up using parts of our surname and our house name which they did accept but it was our 6th choice . Anything that sounds like a place name is also out .

Now tell me its none of my biz , but if you dont intend to breed what is the point of having a kennel name

It costs alot of money initially ,( well I think it was alot , about £50.00 I think I paid )land then at least £12.00 a year , every year after and for what :- "

If you have a litter then peps know they are bred by you , but if you just add your name on the end it seems abit silly to me , As I said JMO
