Sorry to hear this Aslan  :luck:   :luck:   :luck:   :luck: to Layla fot a full recovery.

I know this is a lot more serious than William's recent accident but his prognosis was also not good But I am please to say he has almost made a full recovery and plans are back or showing him next year. I am telling you this to say don't give up hope my vet was adament William would never walk on 4 legs again but he proved him wrong  .

I think most vets extrapolate from the average dog in their experience and practice, which would be something along the lines of a Labrador Retriever or maybe a poodle mix.

I don't think a lot of vets (nothing against vets, it's just more the relative rarity of Whippets) have any idea of the recuperative powers of Whippets. They really are a lot tougher and they mend a lot better than most breeds. That's one of the amazing things about them.

Hopefully, Layla will fall into this category.

hope layla makes a full recovery :luck: :huggles: :luck:

Ita shame you dont have a vet nearer who can do a mylogram ,.

This is far better than an xray , they put dye down the spinal cord ( I think) to see where the damage is . With Buffee they put in in from both ends of her back . and where there was no dye was where the damege was .

Im so sorry to hear about your lovely girl and we are here to help and support you in any way we can .

all the best for her :luck:

BTW Buffee is still improving and even managed a scratch of her neck today :teehee: ( shes not be able to do that for a while) . shes back to see Vet next week too

Hi Lana

Hope all continues to improve with Layla and that your feeling a little bit better.

I know how it feels to see your dog in such pain and feeling so helpless, I felt so devastated when something simliar happened to Rhythm but after a year she as you know is back in the ring.

Don't worry about Layla not cutting it with the younger crowd she'll prove she's still got it :))

All the best :luck: :luck: and take care

Cristina

Wishing Layla a full recovery :luck: :luck:

OMG Lana - so sorry to hear about Layla :(

I feel the devastation you are going thru having recently been down a similar track with Lulu

Thank goodness Layla is recovering, be it ever so slightly - at least there is sign of improvement, so that is a positive. Huge hugs n kisses from the Shenace crew to Layla

Take care & the best of :luck: :luck: :luck:

Lynda

ps - when we were exploring the spinal injury track with Lulu, the vets offered the mylogram & operation - it sounds like a similar operation that they offered you, I was also advised there is still a fairly high chance that it would not be successful, so don't beat yourself up about not having the means to have the operation straight away.

aww, so sorry to hear of Laylas injury :( :( Hope she makes a full recovery :luck: :huggles: Keep us updated.

Thanks so much everyone - and for the PM's too - much appreciated.

She is coming along daily. However now that she is feeling a little better she thinks she is superwoman and can do stairs on her own and wants to run back inside after she's done her toilet. Of course she can't do these things yet and looks at me with disdain when I won't let her.

Ah! the princess in her is coming back :D

I'm going looking for some Devil's Claw in the health shop tomorrow.

Oh gosh. What an awful thing to happen. Fingers crossed that she continues to improve. :luck: :luck:
