good point give the dogs a bit space on coming out as sometime they can come out all shapes and not start straight :thumbsup:I've often wondered why on the scratch racing why the traps have to be placed so close together, surly if the were spaced a bit further apart any dogs that might comes out at an angle, (like they some times do) due to not trapping to good on the day, would have more room to correct them selves without interfering with the dog next to it, also it's easier for the people putting their dogs in the traps. Perhaps there's a good reason why they are placed close together, maybe some could enlighten me as to why this is please.???
Sorry Davidh for asking this on your post, but i think like a few others that trapping is just as important as the race it's self. interesting subject. di
David if your dog is a lure dog its eyes will ben firmly on lure even after race is well finished often when your walking away with dog on lead and lure boy is going back down to traps with it--good point give the dogs a bit space on coming out as sometime they can come out all shapes and not start straight :thumbsup:I've often wondered why on the scratch racing why the traps have to be placed so close together, surly if the were spaced a bit further apart any dogs that might comes out at an angle, (like they some times do) due to not trapping to good on the day, would have more room to correct them selves without interfering with the dog next to it, also it's easier for the people putting their dogs in the traps. another point the knock off should the lure be stopped min 25 yards over the line minimum a mark would stop any controversy.
what about folks waving items at the knock off may be ok for theres but off putting to other dogs causing them to ease over the line (w00t)
i think if these points are looked at it will be better racing
I think its hard enough getting people to do jobs in the first place if we put too many stipulations on how they are to be done we may end up with less helpers !!!!!!good point give the dogs a bit space on coming out as sometime they can come out all shapes and not start straight :thumbsup:I've often wondered why on the scratch racing why the traps have to be placed so close together, surly if the were spaced a bit further apart any dogs that might comes out at an angle, (like they some times do) due to not trapping to good on the day, would have more room to correct them selves without interfering with the dog next to it, also it's easier for the people putting their dogs in the traps. nowt said of making regulations, just uniformity in the distance so dogs can refine there traping if the lids went up when the lure was at a reasonable distance.[trapmen and lure drivers im sure do their best with the situation as it is you cant run this to a rule or regulation if your not happy with the way its being done have a go yourself im sure they wont mind they can take iteasy and watch racing for a change or even get achance to look after their own dogs

I would of thought the bigger issue is a dog being able to get their legs through the bars. In fairness it doesn't matter where the lure is when the door opens if your dogs legs are through the bars. ALL dogs could make a mistake and miss the lids and they often do which is why owners do all kinds with kickboards, frontboards and deterring their dog from messing about in the boxes. What rattled my cage, at an open our bentley i was told went and both his front legs came through the bars if the traps had gone up he would of been badly injured. the person said it was to long a lure as other dogs missed the lids.
i was only thinking of all our dogs welfares.
SECOND PARAGRAPH,yes the trap do great jobs, but sometimes the lure is to long.not asking for inches but somewhere around 10 yards so that the dogs can get some idea and fly out instead of going backwards and fowards in the traps as you see them do.not a bad idea lure 7 yards or so as soon as its away let them go think dogs would have to get used to it though as usually travels before they let go :thumbsup:I would of thought the bigger issue is a dog being able to get their legs through the bars. The problem with having a set mark where the doors are opened is that it sways a decent trapman's judgement. Instead of knowing when to pull they'll be hesitating and making mistakes. Just like lure driving, they're either good at it or not.
It's nice to see there is rules about the width between traps but I do find it odd that for the handicap the distance is between 8 - 12 inches yet for scratch racing it's no more than 8 inches. I'd of thought where all dogs are coming out level, a greater width would be indicated?
As for arm waving, well I don't understand the logic in it until after the dogs have passed the winning line! Sure all dogs should be focused on the lure but just like litter can be a distraction so can an arm waving down in front of you. I've seen some characters striking their arms down in front of dogs racing and I know it isn't because they're cheering them on!
