Hi

I know there have been discussions on this topic before but does anyone out there have lifetime insurance for their whippets? I got "stung" by an insurance company before who did not pay out on my cat - she had diabetes and later died - as they said I had claimed past the 12 month period of the first claim.

Can anyone recommend a company who they might have had dealings with? At the moment we just save a set amount each month - just in case.......

There are a lot of lifetime policies out there but probably the oldest and most trusted is Pet Plan, some of the others hav a tendency to alter their smallprint without telling you. More Than are OK too I think. Tends to be the supermarket names that alter their small print so beware. Also beware as some premium load if you claim, Pet Plan definitely don't. I know someone who had an argos policy who claimed last year - only for about £100 and this years premium has come through at £50 per month!!!! Admitted the dog is old but thats when you most need insurance.

I am with petplan also, I have only just set it up, it is the lifetime cover. Dudley and Rosie (my cat) are insured for £35 per month (for both of them) You have to be carefull as some "lifetime" ones will only pay out a certain amount per condition, petplans is 4000 per year so if Duds was to be diabetic they would pay up to 4000 a year for this.... I think :blink: It takes me ages to get my head round these insurance policies :wacko:

yeah but the only problem with that is, if you were really unlicky and your dog/cat got some illness say they became diabetic, and then they were knocked down by a car and needed thousands of pounds worth of stuff done £4000 is your limit.

ours is with more than (we have never claimed though) we pay £11 each for the dogs, and it covers the £7000 per illness per year

so if they got diabeties they would have up to £7000 for that, then if they wee knocked down there would be £7000 for that aswell

i know its like how often could a dog be that unlucky, but we couldnt afford to pay bills that big, so thats why we looked for one that was per illness/per year not just per year :thumbsup:

unless i have read you wrong and yours is the same, in thats case ill shut up :b

yes you have katie :lol: sorry i didnt explain my self properly my too are covered for unlimited vets fees for life so if somethng happened or they got an illness they are covered for the rest of their life regardless of cost :thumbsup:

obviously some people like to keep the premium to a level they can afford so do so by only insuring their pet for a limited amount i.e £4000 in emmas case

to be honest petplan offer so many diffent policys to suity your own budget you really do need to look into it properly but i would definatley go with them every time as i have never had a problem getting them to pay and have always found them helpful and quick to deal with any claim i have had :thumbsup:

Ours is per illness per year katie think its either 4000 or 6000? £11 sounds a bargain though for £7000 cover per illness per year :thumbsup: Duds is £23 a month and Rosie £10 (approx) xxx

They have temporarily removed their unlimited policies - though existing people can still keep them, but they will be reintroducing them at some point. You can upgrad subject to argreement by underwriter - eg I don't think they would if your pet was ill at the time you applied!!

iv just taken out policeys with more than ,and i pay just over £11 each for tia ,ollie and blue and poppy was £16 sumthing ,same as you katie upto £7000 for each illness :cheers:

PetPlan are definitely the best but also one of the most expensive. They will always pay out, which I suppose is the most important thing. There are some such as E&L to definitely steer clear of. There are also other good ones out there with lifetime cover so worth shopping around. Some offer a good price by offering discounts in the first year. Trouble is you don't always realise that it was discounted until it goes up by a vast amount the next year.

Hi,

I use NFU. This is a lifetime plan. They have been very good with us.

Just been looking at my policy (must read my policies properly, I never do, all that small print hurts my eyes :- " ) It is 4000 a year and that's it. I thought I was covered 4000 per illness/injury per year (this is what happens when you don't read the policy properly ) So does anyone know of a company that offers this and if so, how satisfied are you with them and how much does it cost etc?

I would stick with Pet Plan personally but maybeup to the £6000 cover. At least you can trust them to pay and not alter small print. Many other policies don't cover dental treatemnts, behavioural, physio,herditary and congenital etc etc. I have only known 1 person go over the Pet Plan cover and that was just the £4000 cover, she was about £1000 over but dog had major hip and stifle problems and was referred for major surgey twice. Pet Plan also pay out reasonably quickly - have known people wait months with some other companies. Most vets are also happy to deal direct with Pet Plan to avoid you having to fork out big sum, a lot wont deal direct with any other companies.

I work at a vets and deal with all our insurance claims and when I get my pup I wouldn't go with anyone else. I see the problems peple hve with other companies!!! The small print some have is amazing - with some you have to pre authorise emergency vet consults - not what you need to be thinking about when your dog is ill/injured.
