Seen alot about lure coursing on this forum but they seem to be miles away from where i am in the west yorkshire region. I would love to try my 3 year old whippet dog (Buck) at it, but i don't fancy driving right over to lancashire or some where down south just to have a go to see if he take to it. Can any body put me on to a club nearer home?

Hi lakey welcome to k9 the North West Lure Coursing Club has 2 members from west yorks now you dont need a passport to cross the border feel free to follow them over and enjoy a nice days sport

They're all foreigners in the red rose county if your from the white rose county, so are you sure i don't need a pasport :D !!!!

I've seen dates of meetings for your club but it just seems like a long way to go just to give Buck a go at lure coursing. He works his socks off at rabbiting and even those big black eared rabbits but I don@t know if he would get on and be able to compete at lure coursing.

Another thing is that I get the impression (I may be wrong and i will stand correction if i am) that alot of the whippets that lure course a the more traditional smaller type of whippet. Buck is a good sized dog at about 28-30 pounds are there classes for this size of whippet. I don't mean to sound ignorant but I,ve only ever worked whippets and a small go in the show ring. :b

Lakey,

we've whippets up to approx 38lb run with us, most are around the 25-30lb mark.

if you ever fancy a ride up you'll be made very welcome.

as for the size issue you should know mate that size only matters to women

Thats true Jeff, Andy's wife was saying he had a big one?

Cheers Mark and Pennymeadow i might just make a day of it latter this year to see what its like and if Buck could take to it. Would try sooner but he's resting from injury after coming off second best to a tree while chasing a bunny in the woods, one of the reasons i fancy trying him at lure coursing in a tree free field. I don't like the fees vets charge for pulling lumps of wood out of a dog.

I think we pass that on the way to or back from lure coursing, but i could be wrong I'm crap with places :b I have seen it though it's hard to miss (w00t)

Its the biggest purple thing your ever see in Castleford or anywhere else for that a fact.

Lesley,

the Xscape is about 10-15 mins further on down the M62 than the turn off you take for home, so when you take into account you've got 20 mins drive accross country once off the motorway Lakeys nearer to racing than you.

Then theres Masta who travels from Harrogate.

Come on Lakey have a ride up and join in the fun, as for the jugged lure! Lesleys from Bradford so it would probably be curried lol :- "
