Hi guys

As always im dithering about another important decision i have to make about my 9 month old whip Louie. He has not been microchipped yet, & now our local community centre is holding a free dog clinic & microchipping day on Friday. Was wondering if it will be ok to get Louie microchipped, & if there are any downsides/worries that come with this & the whippet breed - im sure i read something a while ago about there's some drawback, but for the life of me, cant remember what.

Advice as always, appreciated

Thank you

i would get him down there and get him done. most of mine are done and some of mine have been done for 8years+ with no problems i think the old chips could migrate a bit but the new ones dont seam to. It does give you that extra peace of mined if there tag falls off. most of mine didnt even notice it being done and it takes seconds most of mine have been done at 12 weeks old just after there second jab

Thanks wendy, that is very reassuring. Yes, i was inclined to get Louie done, but i always worry if i am making the right decisions, especially when it comes to something being implanted in his body (although obviously being harmless) - they're like our children arent they! we just want what's best for them. Thanks again

if it was up to me i would have my kids done aswell and tony well i would have a tracking device implanted in him

it realy is the size of a grain of rice thats it

Oooh, now that's something to consider then. Is it serious when the chips migrate? or is it worth taking the chance?

Hi, ive had 3 done, 1 has migrated down to the forearm but hasnt caused any problems and is worth it for peace of mind jan

i still think its worth the chance,my threes havent migrated too far :sweating: ,olivers and finleys went onto the shoulder, noahs is now so far down the side of his spine, but they seemed to have settled in these places now so they should be ok

i think a lot depends on how they are microchipped, ive always found the vet nurses did a better job :- "

I had two of mine done at the local Dogs trust scheme...with no problems.

If the chips are the anti-migrating ones...you shouldnt have a problem. Well thats what my vet told me..

Thanks once again everyone for all your help, experience & advice. At least i know the full picture now, & prepared as to what can happen ie the chip migrating. I'm going to take Louie to be microchipped on Friday, & hope for the best, as there are so many benefits as to getting this done. But if the chips do end up migrating, at least i know not to panic, but just keep an eye on them.

Really grateful for all your help.

Thank you

:D

Both my boys have been chipped and we have had no problems with either... when they come up for a cuddle we check their chips as a matter of habbit now.. Sid has had his for 2.5 years and Ben's was a few months ago.

lol rachel, i do that to, i think it becomes a habbit, i have a wee feel and check its still in the same place, and its funny cause i dont realise im doing it, unless they are in a funny position and i cant feel it first time, then its like shock and panic come over you only to be calmed down once you check it propperly and you see it is still there  :- "

Hi,

We had our pup microchipped yesterday, and the other 3 are too.

I was at a gamefair a couple of years ago, when a chap recognised a dog as being his, which was stolen a few weeks previously. The police were called, and as the dog was chipped, the owner got his dog back.I dont think it stops them being stolen, but at least it is proof of ownership.
