We went for our usual morning walk in the woods and Milo surprised a baby squirel and caught it. He played around with it for ages and eventually killed it. Me being the wimp I am couldn't watch and all I could hear was the poor thing squeaking :x :x I kept sending my neice and nephew off to see if it was still alive :- "

When he finally dropped it and came back to me he was crawling with fleas so we have spent the whole day de-fleaing, spraying and hopefully its under control. I couldn't believe how many he had on him.

Do any of your whippets catch squirels? I know our old red setter caught one once but that was just the once. Don't really want him to do it regularly, maybe it was because it was a baby one.

My dogs chase squirrells too but havnt actually caught one yet (w00t) and yes they will have fleas the same as the rabbits at this time of year.... Good luck in getting rid - I use Frontline

One of my girls caught a squirrel once, she swung it round triumphantly......at which point it bit her on the side, she squealed dropped it & it ran off with very wet slicked back fur  .......... Then it was off to the vets with the dog

Don't talk to me about Squirrels  ............On holiday a few years ago, 3 of my Whippets pulled me over and dragged me down a hill after 1 .......I eventually stopped after I hit a parked car  .........I never let go of the dogs though, and hubby and child (and other onlookers) found it VERY funny :b :teehee:

I don't know what your laughing for as the worst of this bunch is Oddy's mum (w00t) .......Look out for sneaky Squirrels that provoke poor little Odds

my two are really into squirrels, once we took them to a park and we was all enjoying ourselves ,like you do,when suddenly both went flying into the woods,we stood waiting and shouting for them to come back, when they did they both had a squirrel a piece dangling from their mouths, well there was lots of people around so you can imagine the comments we got,and to top it all millie dropped her squirrel and pounced on a bush and came out with a rabbit dangling.

since that day they have bells on their collars,so the squirrels can hear them coming(hopefully).

Oh but he's soooooooooo handsome   you just have to forgive him! o:)

he is lovely, such georgous markings and colour! im sure he is very sorry for killing the squirrel!

Just you wait until you find your whippet 6ft up a tree trunk hanging on for dear life :- "

no squirrels as yet.........but Audrey is a dab hand at catching geese in the park........little blighters need to learn that they are A PREY SPECIES and stop trying to stare greyhounds down lol!

Milo's beaten Ziggy to it then. Ziggy's not encountered a squirrel yet but met his first wild rabbit yesterday but he couldn't give chase as he was on the lead as we had only just left the road. I'm not looking forward to him catching small, furry things. :(
