Yesterday I walked across Morecambe Bay. (w00t) It was part of a sponsored walk, with money being raised for a local charity. There were approx 200 people taking part and we were led across by an experienced guide.

It was a wonderful day and one I won't forget in a hurry. The weather was fabulous, and it certainly made our 8 mile trek a pleasurable one. The scenery was lovely, something I didn't quite expect really. I don't know why.

The walking itself was totally different to our usual style of walks, most of it was done barefoot and it was completely flat! The sand was quite hard and ridged, which wasn't always comfortable underfoot, and we had to wade across a tidal river at one point, which was interesting :- " But it was great experience and a lovely day out.

I didn't take the boys because Fred hates water and I was unsure how Stanley would cope with the heat, but having seen how some of the other dogs on the walk enjoyed it, I regretted my decision. :(

I hope you like these photos I took...........

The meet point...

Here are some of the dogs that took part. There were some guide dogs being exercised (boy, did they love it) and a beautiful weimaraner, the same colour as the sand...

Well done Nicola....

were they supposed to be walking through so much water, or was it because of the tide? or the rain..

That looks like a really enjoyable day Nicola. I quite fancy having a go at that but I'm not sure if I would like wading across that river. (w00t) Does it stay that depth all the way across in which case it wouldn't be so bad, and at least your guide would've known the best route. Glad you had some decent weather. :) Some lovely scenic shots too.

I didn't realise just how popular it was. I overheard someone say that 1000 people turned up for it a few weeks ago (w00t) . I was expecting 50-60. It must be a bit overwhelming for the little villages at the start/destination point, at times. :sweating:

Yes, I think it was tidal, it was the estuary to the river and they did warn us in the literature beforehand that it would be water up to the knees/thighs depending on how tall you were. :p It felt OK though...there was a bit of a pull with the current, but it was fine. I rolled up my trouser legs to just above the knees, but I still got very wet trousers. Luckily they were quick drying.

It was fairly shallow at first, then it got deeper, and then back to shallow again. It was lovely and warm though  Our guide was the 'queen's guide' Cedric Robinson, and is quite well known locally I believe. He certainly took us on a very windy route, but we seemed to avoid the quick sands...no one sank :sweating:
