Fred and Stan are delighted to announce they have a new doggie carrier, and a mighty fine on it is too. They're soo excited...they asked me to post a picture on K9. :b

They know it's not every dogs' dream vehicle....but they're as proud as punch, and we all went out for a spin in it yesterday evening:

Excuse the separate posts...(I can't be bothered with photobucket this morning -_- )

What sort of car is that? Does it have a flat back area where a cage could go? I have a Yaris Verso at the moment and it has a flat load bed after I fold the back seats into the floor. Also no lip at the boot edge.

I'll have to get a new car in the next year or so but as my requirements are a bit special (room for whip cage that I can strap my wheelchair to the top of, plus room for 2 more whips; automatic,; highish seats as i have mobility problems; and air conditioning) The car you have looks about the right size, so I'm interested to know if it has any of the things I need??

How do you secure your babies? At the mo Polly travels in her cage and the other two are tied to fixings in the floor with a strap from their car harnesses.

Sorry to be so nosy, but this is the first car I've seen that looks anything like suitable!! (w00t)

It's a Renault Kangoo...and they are quite often used for folk who have reduced mobility and have to carry wheelchairs with them...hence the height at the back.

I've also noticed they are popular with dog show people, as they can be adapted to fit a number of cages in the back. At the moment I don't have the back seats folded, and there's still plenty of room for a large dog cage, although i can't say what size at the moment. I currently have Fred in a soft cage in the back and Stan is tied to a loop fixing on the floor with his harness, next to the soft cage. I'm going to be investigating 2 separate cages in the back, but this is my make-do solution for the time being.

I love it...loads of room, a good height, electric windows and mirrors, power steering, and it feels nice to drive too (well anything would after driving a succession of very old VW's previously). This one doesn't have air-conditioning, but some models do have this added luxury.

I hope pride doesn't go before a fall...and I go and prang it, but I think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I don't care what it looks like!

Thanks Nicola. I looked it up to see if they do an automatic (I have MS and my left side is very temperamental!!) and they do, so I will look into those when I come to change. Is the floor flat to the back or is there a lip to lift things over (not sure that is clear, but if it is flat, you'll know what I mean!!) as I have to sit down on the back to change shoes etc and not comfortable if not flat :b

Do the seats fold into the floor - couldn't work that out from the description given. I don't think I could lift sears in and out and I sometimes use an electric buggy instead of a wheelchair. I can sort of 'lever' it into the Verso. I wish they hadn't stopped that model - I'm on my second and I LOVE it. Just like a tardis!!.

Many thanks for all your info.

The floor is flat to the back...I've just slid three heavy bags of compost and bark chippings out...no problem. I haven't tried the seats yet, but will do so especially for you later on (it will be handy to know anyway). :D My aunt uses an electric buggy, so this was also part of my reason for getting the car (it was at the back of my mind) . She rarely gets out very far as she doesn't drive...

It's a shame when manufacturers no longer make something you really like and get on with isn't it?

Lucky Fred & Stan! :D It looks great, Nicola, and just right for the dogs.

very nice, bet they have loads of room, very nice photos like always

That looks ideal for Fred and Stan and you sound very pleased with it Nicola, Happy driving

Im so pleased you finally got that new vehicle Nicola, its great ... :) Ive been looking at changing my Polo this year too... and when we get the chance shall be looking at some vehicles.

this is one I liked too the Kangoo, or a Khia... cant wait to find one so I can get the three dogs in the back comfortably and without worry.

I'll be very interested to hear the results of your experiment with the seats! Yes, it is a pity the Toyota yaris Verso was discontinued. I really love mine :*

Yes...I've just had a go at folding back the seats (quite easy although one back head rest had to be removed  , which again was easily done). They fold back and over (a sort of double flip if you get my gist) behind the front seats to reveal a flat floor that measures 4 ft long by about 3' 10" wide (I think i've got this right....I'm better at metric really).

Hope this is helpful. :)

How do you get quotes to go blue?????

Thanks so much Nicola - sounds just the job, especially as I have found out it comes in automatic with air conditioning. Will have to be a buy for next year (when an insurance policy matures) though, as my house is proving very expensive at the moment :teehee:

Congratulations! It's nice having a new car isn't it? (although they somehow don't stay new-looking for long with doggy passengers, or maybe it's just our lack of car pride :b ) A friend of ours got one for his personal training business, I think he was pleased with it (although I think he spoilt it by decorating it all over with the logo/graphics I did for him :b )

That's a really good idea, it's frustrating how many estate cars don't have this feature.

That looks brilliant Nicola.

I recently changed by lovely Ford Sportka which was useless for the dogs as the back seats didn't go flat, so no good for putting in a cage. I now have a much more practical Peugeot 206 SW which I am very pleased with.
