Finally got my new lens this morning after waiting for ages knowing it was lying on the floor behind the chair in my husband's study as he wouldn't let me have it till my birthday! :- " So here's a few photos I took.

First one is taken with my old lens the other day - cheeky squirrel pinching the bird seed.

I took these next two while I was standing at the other end of the garden - so pleased to have this telephoto/zoom lens. :D

Gorgeous photos.....................HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Looks like we are going to be getting

some even better pictures from you

now gillian

Great pictures - I'm so jealous :- " ...thou shalt not covert thy neighbours camera... :- "

look forward to many more pics - details on the boys head studies is superb

Hope you had a great birthday. Lovely photos.

Superb!!!!!

The head shot of Jonah is stunning

Which lens is it, Gill.

I have a Canon digital SLR camera, but never used it because it just doesn't do

the job I want it to with the basic lens :( It's sitting in a box in our spare bedroom

It's a 55-250mm IS lens and has had some very good write ups. I got it for something around £180 which is excellent value. But it has used up all my birthday and Christmas money from the family, so no more presents. :( Still, I think it's worth it! :D

these photos certainly look sharper gillian  love the head shots too

will look forward to a few more photos using your new lens

(w00t) Happy Birthday!

great photos, my fav's are the headshots. wish you were closer i'd pay you to come photo my lot! (w00t)

Looks promising. Those last 3 are lovely.

It's still quite hard getting close up bird shots with anything less than a 500mm lens unless the bird lands a meter or two away, but for whippet action shots etc it will be ideal

Wow wonderful photos and great for when the boys don't know you are taking photos of them.. :huggles:

Glad to hear you have had a lovely day

Thanks, Gill

That does sound very reasonable compared to some prices

I have researched

Next question ......... how do you manage to keep the camera still with a

bigger lens on it - is it just practice??

This lens comes with Image Stabilization which, to quote the instruction manual, 'gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed 4 stops faster'. So you can take shots at a lower shutter speed without blurring/camera shake. Actually, it's not much heavier though than the lens (18-55mm) that came with the camera. But the still shots are easy - I think I'm going to need more practice with the moving ones! :- "

They are lovely Gillian... isnt it great playing with those lenses..  mines the 75-300mm and Im still practising :sweating:

Muffin looks even more like Oscar...when he puts that stern look on his face...

Lovely photos - that must be a great lens - excellent detail on those portrait shots

Blimey, very impressed - what fantastic photos, you must be so chuffed  love the close up's of your two whippets - stunningly gorgeous
