Hi, my name is Gail. I have two dogs one is a 10-year-old Airedale the other is an 11-year-old boxer 10-year-old is a boy 11-year-old is a girl. I have had dogs pretty much since 1973. My favourite dog of all time is the boxer . I have had four of those and this is my fourth one at present. Never had an Airedale before wouldn’t recommend one unless you know something about dogs as they can be very stubborn, awkward, ignorant, take liberties, very funny so you need a sense of humour, loyal, fearless, protective, and old. When I say old I mean they have an old attitude. This Airedale of mine has always slept on the floor at the bottom of our bed every night since he was six months old. This particular boxer has never been interested in anything else but her own bed. She is the smallest of the Boxers I’ve ever had but she has also been the biggest pest and still is but once again as with the Airedale they are both amazing with children. So they pretty much dominate my life. Unfortunately I can no longer take them out for walks myself as I’ve become severely disabled in the last few years so I think well actually know that these will be my last two dogs.

Hi Gail, sorry to hear you are disabled. I have never owned either of these breeds, but always thought Boxers look like bruisers, but then again, looks can be deceptive, my dog looks cute as hell...

Welcome! I'm sorry you can't walk your dogs any more but I'm sure you give them a wonderful life. I do love the look of airedales, but I can imagine what a handful they are!

doggie1 Yes Boxers do look a bit like bruisers but underneath all of that they are really soft in nature, but like all breeds if they are trained correctly they are really lovely pets. This Boxer of mine is a real diva unlike any of the others I've had. What sort of dog do you have?

Yes they are a handful which is why I wouldn't recommend them as a first dog. I did a lot of research before buying one, simple because I'd never had one before. Also this is the first time I've had 2 dogs so close together in age. What type of dog do you have?

I have a lurcher. He's also a handful because, as well as having deerhound in him which means he's large, he also has some Irish terrier in him which I imagine isn't dissimilar to an airedale. At least, that's what I blame all his foibles on

It's really hard to capture his cuteness. He's jet black and his little face looking cute doesn't show up. He goes upstairs sometimes and I go down and call him down and he stands with his head curled round the wall at the top of the steps, i just can't get the picture to come out, it's so cute and funny.

My post about Boxers being bruisers sounded harsh. When I was little there was a Boxer near us and it was horrible, barking, snapping, biting. I think it tainted my view of Boxers forever.

Now that I can understand as I have come across a few like that. The last time that happened I was walking in the woods I used to walk in and a lady had a 2 year old male that was on an extendable lead and he growled at me when he came near me but my Airedale being the sort of dog that he is went after it growling and tried to bite him. In his defence he was trying to protect me and after telling him to leave it! He finally came back to me sat down one side of me and looks at me as if to say There you go mum I’ve sorted it. To which I patted him on his head. The lady did say when I met her without the dog that she is having trouble tremendous problems training him and I could clearly see that if she didn’t get the proper training she was never going to be able to let him off the lead. So I don’t really think you’re being harsh.

Welcome to the forum! Besides the two Airedales we get into the salon - I've not much experience with them, but I ADORE Boxers! For sure will own one, someday! They're such fun and sweet dogs!

One of my friends has 2 Lurcher’s and another that’s lurcher with a whole bunch of other stuff. Any dog that has terrier in them will have some of what my Airedale has. You have to bare in mind that Airedales are the king of terriers so are generally a pain in the backside.
