Hope Pheonyx doesn't mind me copying this pic - this dog is obviously a non ped and was left in a vets to be pts (he's 1yr old).

It really sickens me that there are people in our sport doing this.

His story's here http://www.k9community.co.uk/forums/index....topic=14278&hl=

Just as well there's people like Pheonyx and Whippet Rescue that take on these dogs and just makes me think how much such rescues are taken for granted.

wow. what a nice looking dog. cant believe people can do this to their dogs, he will surely find a new home.

unfirtunatly theres as many non peds as peds that get dumped like this. its realy sad cos if they couldnt cope for some reson with the dog or for some reson it couldnt race if they had contacted a sighthound rescue they would help instead of the poor dogs being pts or dumped. hes a lovly loking lad and that tail

:( Wendy's right there are as many non ped as peds being pts or dumped, some given away to the first person who will take them , with no home checks.

There really is no need for this we have whippet rescues why dont racers use them. It is much better for the dog. We used whippet recsue years ago now for one of our whippets she was deaf and very unhappy with our other dogs. She was found a great home with a couple who knew about deaf dogs and she had one to one care which we could not give her.

Racing folk really need to be better informed through clubs etc about rescues instead of taking them to the vets. This little chap was lucky but most are not. There are good homes waiting for these dogs. Ive said it before on k9 please use whippet rescue, and support the rescues all you can.

take him to your local club, give him a run .you will soon see if he is exrace dumped :(

He's a stunner.....hopefully he'll get a loving home for life

its very sad to think people like the person who took this lovely dog to be p.t.s are involed in racing or owning whippets ped or non-peds or any pet,

Hi folks, I've just managed to speak to Jake's former owner and have a much better picture now of what happened. She is very upset about what happened and that Jake has had to be rehomed, and she did receive a very nasty bite from him while trying to separate him and the other whippet who were having a fight.

The trip to the vets was not what she wanted to do and she was more than willing for Jake to be rehomed, as having him PTS was the last thing she wanted for him. her children are also devastated about having to let him go.

Thankfully, Jake may already have a home offer (depending on if he gets on with cats or not!) but even if that falls through he will be guaranteed a lovely home - if we didn't have as many dogs here I'd be very tempted to keep him myself

Jules (Phoenyx)

I am so glad to hear he will have a loving home soon ! is this person a non ped racer ?? I agree with spellbound it is very sad to think that someone would do this..........to any animal

I do feel sorry for the owner that she thought that was the last option, must have been a very hard decision to make, hope her children aren't too cut up about Jake leaving.

The main thing is he'll be found a loving home through Phoenyx

Would it be worth Pheonyx having a contact number in whippet news maybe to save anyone else going through the same thing?

PEOPLE GO ON ABOUT GREYHOUND PERSONS DUMPING THERE DOGS BUT THE SPORT OF WHIPPET RACEING IS ON AND OFF THE SAME.THATS WHY PEOPLE ARE LOOKING IN TO THE TWO SPORTS TO SEE IF ITS AS BAD AS PEOPLE THINK OR SAY IT IS,IF THEY FINED OUT IT IS THEY PROBABLY BAN IT.(THATS ALL WE NEED)

The majority of whippet racers look upon their whippets as pets first and racing whippets second :)) so I do not think they can ban the majority of us from letting their whippets chase an onion bag  but I agree people should be made to realise that there are whippet rescues out there which put the whippet first when peopleare having difficultys :- " and I think that a brilliant idea Vicky of having Pheonyx's phone number advertised in the whippet news :D

WHIPPET RACING IS GETTING BAD ENUFF WITH ALL THIS TALK OF DRUGS AND OTHER THINGS GOING OF IN THE SPORT NOW THIS,THATS ALL WE NEED :(

i'm just so glad this darling creature has another chance, with a family that are worthy of him. i dont know about you guys, but in selling my puppies, i interviewed THEM rather than the other way round! if you bring a pet into your life, surely by the time they realised he wasnt good for racing, they'd have become too attached to even consider getting rid  !? i think its a sign of the times, sadly.. :( everything comes too easy for certain social circles...dole types in particular. i've been there, but the majority seem to prosper. cant feed or clothe their kids, ALWAYS money for booze, or how about that 42" plasma? sick of caring for that mangy dog who cant earn its keep? chuck it and get another    ....god, some people make me ashamed to be a human being

i know of a lot of people on the dole or income support that have lurcher, greyhound, whippets ect.and there dogs are part of the family and very well looked after, not all people are like that ON THE DOLE

i know alot of very nice people on benefits, but where i live many deserve to be shot..christ, for some its a status symbol to have had at least one child taken away by social services. child neglect is rife, dog theft weekly...it goes on and on.

heres a lighthearted tale that occured 4 months ago...

we had to chuck our old pc, so we put it outside to take to the tip at the weekend. the pc was out in the rain for two days. about 2 o'clock in the morning, my oh and i were woken up by a noise outside. we looked out the window to see one chap with the monitor, another with the pc, running up the road! we've had our wheelie bin stolen twice!

heres a not so lighthearted tale...

a school friend of mine was walking her 10mth old staffie at our local park. a group of 6 asian youths accosted her, beat her mercilessly, put her in hospital for a fortnight...all because they wanted her dog. theft is so bad around here that when we bought our girl, the cousin of a friend actually asked that cousin if our dog was the one that she'd had stolen off her the week before?!

u are going into this a bit to far we on about dogs not pc getting taken,im sorry to here about yet freind but do not put people all in the same class as the ones u know

it makes no difference what breed of dog it is,whippet, greyhound or mutt.theres too many dogs being dumped for pathetic reasons.some of these folk shouldnt be allowed to own a stuffed toy nevermind a real living creature.and having pots of money is no guarantee of a kind loving home
