Anyone got any ideas how to make a dog a bit weary if you cant give it a good run that day?
I exercise mine, even before they go to a show, unless we are leaving really, really early but yesterday we went out into the woods during the lunchbreak, before Rupert and Sid went into the ring and they had a good blow then!! Sid stayed around but Rupert and Angel went off hunting for about 5 -10 minutes and came back with some terrier type thing that had been hanging around the car park!!! Obviously one of the locals!

And what do you do if a, they go off for an hour or two. or b, come back with a hole or bushed up toe and you are miles from home?

Same as I would any time I walk them!!

a. wait for them

b. patch them up temporarily until I get back to my Vet!!

Think I'm losing the will to take this showing lark seriously!!!

But if they come back injured , youve wasted time and money (w00t) getting to the show , havnt you.

Im all for letting my dogs run free ,but there is a TIME and PLACE for everything o:)

Has anybody got the full results for NWA or have I missed something?

Why be so negative?? Why should they come back injured??? Do you expect your dogs to come back injured every time you let them off the lead?? Cos I certainly don't.

So why go to a venue like that (which is local for me so is somewhere that my dogs have been exercised anyway) and not let them have a run??

It did cross my mind that they might come back a bit dirty but so what, it's only dirt and will clean off.

Caroline , youve gone all to cock with what we are saying (w00t) , What we , well me any way was , why risk letting your dogs off lead before a show ( whilst at the venue ) if they are prone to disappearing with the possiblility of them hurting them selves . im not saying they do , but I would find it scary letting mine off where they and myself , dont know the lay out of the place . Who knows what or more importantly WHOM is hiding out of sight

There splenty of time for a run after theyve been shown , in a safe , known place IMO ;)

No I haven't gone all to cock. Karen wanted to know how to make a dog weary before it goes in the ring .................... simple! Take it for a run!!! Which is exactly what we did.

I have already said the venue is familiar to us but I don't have a problem with my dogs going off, they do it all the time and I trust them to come back, they are not prone to going off for hours, they know exactly what they are doing and where I am. I would like to see anyone try and catch one of mine, when out they are not very people orentated!!

It is only a show, not the most important event in their lives or mine, so if they can have a bit of fun to break up the monotony of the day, so much the better.

I obviously have a much more 'laissez faire' attitude about showing/exercising so let's just agree to disagree!!!!

 Well done to all who got placed!! BUT especially,Nina with Holls & Ells,Georgina with Beau and Sunny with Honey great results in huge classes, well done GIRLS and BOY! :huggles:

Nice picture - thanks Cathie

Couldnt agree more Dawn  It was great the other year when it came to Ryton on Dunsmore

How many Club shows do you want in the Midlands/North of England???

You have Northern Counties, you have North East, you have South Yorkshire, you have Midland Whippet, you even have the Whippet Club at Coventry. If the NWA moved up that would leave no show in the South at all and our 'nearest' one would either be Wales or East Anglian, not exactly local either way!!!

Karen

He was the man from Pedigree Pet Foods who kindly donated all the Specials for 1st's and Bags of food for all our Final winners, then came along for most of the day to watch the show, and give the final Specials out - what a star.

I will leave the North / south discussion in your hands .
