Funny you should say that --------I have only just said to Karen we will need to cut his food intake down as it will put more pressure on his leg if he piles weight on ..

I know that with my own problems with weight ---it is very hard to get rid of once you have put it on----without popping your clogs--lol

then it goes very quickly!!! o:)

but it don't matter to you only the pole bearers--lol o:) :sweating: :sweating:

steve  (w00t)

After changing Barney's dressing yesterday he had his first trip across the road with Karen she carried him across then let him walk---along the edge of field---

just to sample a few new sniffs---

he is coming along very well but wants to play and its getting harder to keep him quiet

--will put some new pics of the leg later ---

Karen stabbed her self on the pins and its sore she says so we can understand why they need covering up --- :sweating: :teehee: (w00t)

Thanks for asking John --he is doing very well we think now that all the bruising has gone and we can see the leg as it should be -no bumps or bends that stand out--

-it is straight and looks just like his other front leg comparing the two

Our vet Keith seems very happy with it

rest and time are the most important factors now

along with a bit of good luck thrown in for good measure-- :luck: :luck: :luck:

he has been a model patient who seems to know that your doing what is best for him albeit painful at times

he is very much like his mum Meg---

who seemed to always be aware that if you were doing something it was for her own wellbeing.

once again John thank you for your concern --

I am sure time will tell and he has that on his side he is only 18months old in March so no hurry to get back to the track and Alva can have some quality time along with Annie till he is ready to start training again--

next back end i would think before he will be ready

steve

these are two i took after changing dressing and washing it with iodine

And shortly afterwards he was quite comfortable as you can see-with fresh bandage and vet wrap on

Aww keep up the good work guys, swelling looks to have gone down compared to previous piks.

Best of luck Barney :luck:

Quick Update

Took Barney to vets on Thursday to have another x-ray see if healing was going to plan

vet suited with alignment of bones

but not enough callas yet to take external fixation kit off

so we have another six weeks of waiting -- then i expect another x-ray before pins are removed

Starting ultrasound treatment this week and mag box therapy has been on going for a few weeks

Next steps we will sort out some swimming

As soon as pins are out hope to have him fit for Scotland -or should i say i would like to have him ready! if at all possible---

We are not to worried how long it takes as he is young ---only 18months now --- plenty of time and youth on his side

I will be very interested to see what sort of fitness levels he can attain

having had such a serious fracture/ injury to both ulna/radius --

plus the injury he had to his hind leg prior to this one at Six months old

We will be much wiser at the end of it all ----

Whatever the outcome he is something special to us ---

and he will be with us till the big lad takes him thats for sure ---

Steve/Karen

will it not take 2 to 3 months for the pin holes to callas in????????

Good news for barney   best of luck with him for the future

It must seem like forever for all 3 of you at the mo! I hope the next 6 weeks comes past quickly for you all and it continues to heal well. :luck:

I don't know if you've got somewhere already lined up for swimming but I've had Dobs down to Teazledown swimsafe in Preston (Linda recommended them to me).

They've been brilliant, very patient and freindly with the him and he seems to be enjoying the whole experience.

Wishing Barney the best of luck, it'd be great to see him run at Scotland. :luck:

Should not take that long as the Vet used cat pins which are smaller as the ones they had for dogs were too thick and his legs could not stand them ---

but like i said no rush as long as the end product is right who cares how long !

steve

Get well soon Barney. You will soon be bouncing about the house, giving Steve and Karen heart in the mouth moments  ,,like whippets do

Makes me cringe every time he jumps on couch or chairs then starts playing with Alva have to stop em chasing in and out all the time ---hope Colt is doing ok Sue---

how long did that take?--

steve

Colt is 100% fine,, just loopy and he scare's me as he runs about and jumps from the sofa to the chair,,Gizmo is just the same :clown: . Colt never held his leg up after he got his operation, he used it right away  Glad Barney is doing so well  Colt's leg took about 8 weeks to heal, but he never got the all clear from the vet till about 12 weeks after the op.
