Kiah is our first whippet and has settled in really well in the 10 days we have had her. She is now 8 weeks old.
Only problem we have is our dachund/collie cross, who is 11, hasnt taken to her (yet) - he has had a go a couple of times and we have to keep them apart when she is in a playfull mood - any advice appreciated.

Dave you don`t look like a horse! You`ll be had up under the trades descriptions act! :teehee:

The pup is much prettier than you-a real sweetie.

I expect the old dog will eventually come round but don`t rush anything and NEVER leave them unsupervised.

Perhaps a "playpen for Kiah when pldie is in the room with her?

Good luck from Liz,Dandy,Magic and Gavin [+ 6 cats and 6 kittens] AND the wife`s two ferrets

Kiah is really beautiful - but then she would be as she's the spit of Gracie!!    Monty looks a stunner too and I'd like to see more pics of him please!

At 11 Monty is beginning to age and he's used to a quiet life. You may only ever achieve a reluctant tolerance on his part with regard to Kiah. On the other hand, he may one day be completely under her spell! Either way you've got two lovely dogs. :)

Thanks for all the replies and advice everyone - its been really useful and encouraging.

The good news is Monty has been pretty tolerant of Kiah (touch wood!) over the past week or two but we are taking nothing for granted and are keeping a close eye on them when they are together.

When Kiah is in a quiet mood Monty is fine - its when she gets revved up and mischevious that Monty cannot be trusted not to suddenly snap at her although he does give warning signs (he sort of freezes and looks at her in the corner of his eyes - a bit "Here`s Johnny" like from the shining!.

She sleeps fine in her crate and is growing very quickly - cant believe the growth rate in 3 weeks!

Monty is a very good dog - an unusual mix of Dachund and Collie - and I think once the two of them can go out on walks together he will accept her - he accepted our cat Buffy although we think he just pretends she doesnt exist! (he totally ignores her).

Will put some more pics of Monty and Buffy over the weekend.

PS - Dave the Horse is a nick name from work - I am into horse racing and own shares in a few racehorses as well as running my own racing syndicate - website below if anyone would like a look:

Horse racing is an expensive business to get involved in and its purely for the love of the game I am into it, particulary going to see our horse Choristar at the stables and watch him work on the gallops. You need a very good class horse to actually make money and they are usually very expensive.

Choristar has had 4 runs for us since we bought him from the sales in October 05 and has finished 3rd once - should be running again very soon once the ground dries up (if it ever stops raining that is!). He has been placed 7 times in total and should win races for us.

He is a lovely horse and I will be going to the yard top see him tomorrow - he is at John Mackie`s yard at Church Broughton, South Derbyshire.

Hi Dave , welcome to K9

Love the pup and Monty , we have alot in common , Ive a Montee and a Buffee plus Ive had shares in racehorses , the best by far being Smokin Beau who Im sure you have heard of .

The poor old horse is far past his best and I really feel for him when they try to hold him up in a race when we all know he loves to front run , I wish I was his trainer ,it must be soul destroying for him to have these youngsters pass him :(

He ran his best with John Cullinin ,never done much with Nick Littmodin at all . and mathew Henry was the best jockey , he really knew how to ride him , we won some good money on him at 25s & 33 s /1 too

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for the welcome and good to hear from you. Amazing coincidences there!

Yes I know of Smokin Beau - will check him out on the RP site - which syndicate were you in?

Another coincidence - we have been to the last 2 Middleham Open Days on Good Friday and my other racehorse shares are in horses stabled in Middleham with Patrick Haslam.

One of them, Impeccable Guest, is entered to run at Redcar on Monday in the last race - if she definately runs she would have a good E/W chance.
