Or an orthopaedic specialist if there isn't a greyhound vet near you. I would stake my Whippets' lives on my Vet, who is an orthopod and understands running dog problems very well even though she is not a 'greyhound' vet.

Hi, Im so sorry to hear about your whippets injury. I dont want to worry you more at an already upsetting time but when our saluki suffered tendon damage we took him to our vet at the time (very experienced with sighthounds)and he told us he would be operating to repair the damage first thing the next morning as time is of the essence with repairing tendons as the longer they are left they tend to shrink, (a bit like a snapped elestic band ) I would urge you to get advice from a specialist asap even if its by phone as we were lucky and had a very positive outcome with our saluki and believe me I am keeping everything crossed for the same for you.

Thinking of you

Sounds like a greyhound expert could help.
Don't have any advice though but just want to send best wishes from all of us for a speedy recovery.

One of our whippies snapped the tendon in her toe and it's always fully extended now (not curled).  She is a bit lame but it doesn't stop her running about.

:luck:   :luck:   :luck:   :huggles: for your whippie.

Poor little Tegan, hope she makes a good recovery :luck: :luck: :luck:

Just to say that my Lenny also did the same as one of Zilloots dogs, snapped a tendon in his foot. He made a full recovery and is not lame at all but his toe looks a bit funny and flat. I know its not as serious as a leg tendon but our vet said that he may have been lame and find it difficult to run but he is ok now :)

I really hope your little one feels better soon :huggles:

sorry to hear about poor Tegan :( i wish her a speedy recovery :luck: :luck:

:huggles: :huggles: For Tegan

I dont know if it will help BUT if you want to PM me. I have an Orthapaedic vet who has done all my IG legs for me for coming up 18 years & i will gladly put you in touch with him.

He is the very best as far as i'm concerned for leg injuries whether it be bone or tendon.

Dear Rachel

I have a 17 month old little whippet bitch called Deedee and she had an accident just after September and cut both tendons on her hind right leg it took us almost 10 days to find the vet with the right experience and at a reasonable price as some were asking as much as £1000 to do the operation we finally went to see a greyhound vet who runs a practice in Clydebank in Glasgow and he said that it was a simple operation and it only cost £150 and he was BRILLIANT he assured us that we were not to late and has helped us with her every bit of the way.

It was about 10 wks after the operation and her foot was still flat on the floor and we thought it would never get better, but low and behold about another 5 days later my husband Derek shouted Mandy is it me or have her toes started to pull up .........and they had, ever since then her foot has gone from strength to strength and looks as good now as it did before the accident.

it will still be months before we can even think of letting her get a little chase at the lure but the vet (MICHEAL FRANCIS BOYCE ) has told us he has done the same operation on more greyhounds than he can remember and all are back running again.

so the first person who advised you to go to a Greyhound vet was spot on.

Hope you get it fixed ............love Mandy..........xx :D

Thankyou so much for that, so pleased for your Deedee is on the mend and recovered so well.

We have spoken to a greyhound vet today, but has said he could do more than our vet has already said. Its just finding the right one i suppose, from what we are to understand this is not an easy thing to deal with as the ligaments have snapped between the bones there is nothing keeping her wrist to her foot.

Thats really encouraging that yours has her leg back working normally, we'd be really happy if Tegan can be able to run about again.

Thanks

Rachel
