This is hard to type but this is going to be Parker my beagles last Christmas. He will be four on the sixth of January.

He had been having fits and it now appears they were due to brain swelling, although he is on drugs the illness is progressive and we are now waiting until Jan/Feb when the swelling will return and his fits will start again.

There is a limit to how much the vets can do for him and even if he goes on steroids again, they affect his behaviour and so do the fits.

The last fit he had a few weeks ago has done some brain damage and he has regressed to displaying many puppy behaviours which although endearing, they are confusing him a bit.

He will likely be put to sleep in the next few weeks, before he deteriorates and loses his quality of life.

Any way here is my lovely boy.

That must be very hard for you but please be comforted by the thought that you given your boy a wonderful, though short, life and you continue to do the very best for him. :huggles:

aww . so sorry to hear this , at least you know your making the right choice .

poor you and poor parker :huggles:

What terrible heartbreaking news - I am so very sorry. Parker is such a smashing chap - to have such an illness at such a young age is just so very sad and unjust. Lots of love to Parker - at least you are able to make his last weeks the best you can and you know that you are doing what is best for him before he deteriorates too much. Hugs to you both.

:( poor Parker, so sorry, hope all goes well in his next few weeks :huggles:

So sorry :( I am sure Parker will enjoy his last Christmas with those that he loves so much and that love him in return

I'm so sorry to hear about Parker, you have made a very hard decision but the right right one for him.

All of you enjoy your time with him and know deep down that he loves you and always will.

:huggles:

I'm so sorry to hear about Parker and send you hugs.

We were in the same position with my whippet and her fits when she was just two and a half. We knew that the illness was progressing and that she wouldn't recover. I can't go into detail because it upsets me soo much but we made her last day one of the best possible for her - I still go to pieces when I think about it and it was nine years ago now. She was such a special dog.

I hope you can have a Christmas with good times this year. I'm sure your boy has had a wonderful life with you and we wish you all the best for the coming months. :huggles:

How awful, how sad. Very good of you and brave NOT to pursue treatments. A very kind and selfless decision.

sorry for you with this sad news, Parker has , I'm sure had a lovely few years with a loving family, it's very brave of you to do the most selfless thing and put him first, he'll have a very special place in your hearts :huggles: o:)

So sorry to hear about the wee guy, but I'm glad you've got some time to spoil him and take care of him before it's time to let him go.

Enjoy every minute (I'm sure you will, though it will be bittersweet) spoiling him rotten.

I am so sorry :(

I think this poem say it all.

If it should be

If it be I grow frail and weak,

And pain should wake me from my sleep,

Then you must do what must be done,

For this last battle can’t be won.

You will be sad, I understand,

Don’t let your grief then stay your hand,

For this day more than all the rest,

Your love and friendship stand the test.

We’ve had so many happy years,

What is to come will hold no fears,

You’ll not want me to suffer, so,

When the time comes, please let me go.

I know in time you too will see,

It is a kindness you do for me,

Although my tail it’s last has waved,

From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you,

Who has to decide this thing to do,

We’ve been so close, we two, these years,

Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

So Sorry. :(

Very hard anytime but worse at this time of year.

:huggles: to you all.
