Loaded up the dogs to take them for a lovely windy walk by the river and within 2 minutes of being of their leads Tweed turned to tell Sandro off for biting her tail and accindently caught poor Kylie who being a whippet had a big skin tear we took her straight to vets and they stitched her up and she is back home now, she is fine and quite enjoying the extra fussing :wub:

Meant to ask will this leave a nasty scar and go against her showing?

Poor Kylie it must be something in the air at the moment, all these poor whippets, our bitch got run over 4 years ago and her scar is still there with missing fur round it, dont know if this will mark her down in showing, hope not she a lovely fawn.

Oh no poor Kylie :huggles: :huggles: Callie had a small hole on her chest which she had staples in on her white blaze the fur grew back and no sign now but I don't know about a large cut sorry, hope it does grow back for her showing and that she heals really quickly :luck: :luck:

I think wheatgerm oil is supposed to be excellent for preventing/reducing scars :thumbsup: There have been quite a few threads with before and after pics, I'll see if I can find any of them for you :thumbsup: Apparently it's a really good natural source of Vit E and you should rub it in on the wound. Try Pming ~Jo~ she's good good knowledge on that sort of thing :thumbsup:

She will probably have a bit of a scar from that, but it shouldn't affect her chances in the show ring, I have seen some dogs with bad scars still being put up, and after all this is a 'sporting' breed. Also, it's not on her show side so won't even be visible on the table or moving.

She is a beautiful girl- what breeding is she?

Poor lamb! What a peculiar scar...perfect right angle, did Tweed use a set square?! I've often wondered (not being a showing person) how scars affect their placing at shows, I assumed that really it's conformation etc that's important and th

at acquired marks are par for the course when showing a working breed?

But then most dogs were bred to work in some form or another weren't they!

A scar shouldn't be a problem for showing. However if you have some calendula pills give her 2 tonight & 2 tomorrow morning which will help reduce scarring. If you don't have any & you'd like some e-mail me & I'll mail you some first thing tomorrow morning. :thumbsup:

Poor Kylie, that was some bite, accidental or not!! Just shows how vulnerable Whippet skins are. Just depends how much the hair follicles have been damaged as to how much scarring it leaves/hair regrowth but I would think probably not a lot.

I personally don't like to see scars and that is why I always have any wounds on my own dogs sutured (plus the fact I am sure they heal quicker) because it is usually the ones that are left to heal on their own that scar BUT I would never take any notice of scars (or colour for that matter) when I am judging as it doesn't affect conformation and movement!!
