this i found a great help with my own litters

day 58 after the first breeding, you'll want to start taking your bitch's temperature three times a day. A bitch's temperature will drop from around 101.4 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit or below a few hours before she is ready to whelp. A fluctuation in temperature is very normal, what you are looking for is a dramatic drop to below 99F. The temperature drop is the best indicator of imminent whelping. Other signs of imminent whelping are restlessness, discomfort, licking and looking at vulva. The bitch may refuse food prior to whelping as well. She will probably pant heavily

All my bitches have alway's dropped to around 98F,or,37C,whichever way you look at it.From then, they never left my sight, till they had finished pupping.Unless they were wanting to surprise me,like Tara did this time, with 2 more a day later. And that was even after having her Oxytocin injection,to make sure all the pups n afterbirths were expelled.

Great new's Elise.Glad everything went ok with the opp.hope the little feller comes through for you,and that Blaze and the 2 wee bitches are ok too.4 oz is tiny,as my twins were 6 and 7 oz,and i thought that was the smallest i would ever see.Mind you, there parents were 50,and 60+lb.Anyway,will be thinkinf of you all tonight. ...Billy...

Little update for you all before bedtime. Little lad is suckling. He's not the best at locking on so he's suckling on a little supplement (probably best at the mo as Blaze has little milk but I'm sure the girls will get things pumping)

Elise says he's looking a lot pinker now and a teeny bit more plumped up than when he first came out and he's also wandering about and nuzzling. :)

Blaze is coming round well and has made attempts at nursing her pups so that's good too. Girlies are nice and healthy and suckling well.

Elise and her family asked me to say a huge thank you for all your support, well wishes and messages. She anticipates being offline over next few days but she'll catch up with you all soon.

I'll try and get an update tomorrow morning on how things have gone on through the night or if anyone else gets in touch could they keep us all updated.

Just taking a quick break between feeds to let you know that the little one is still with us.

I never even thought we'd bring him home. His heart rate was so low and after 10 minutes of rubbing there was no change. He was put aside as we thought that was it. He gasped a little but again we thought it was his last breaths. Only he just kept gasping, more and more often, for 10 more minutes, so he went on the heat pad and started to move his little head and legs.

I sweated so much in the car on the way home, with the heating on full blast keeping the pups and Blaze warm, hoping that Blaze would lay still in the back of the car and not spread blood everywhere, and hoping to doG that the little one would survive the journey.

It was a difficult journey, trying to keep an eye on Blaze and the pups for the full hour long journey (I think I bumped into the back of someones car at traffic lights but it was 9pm by the time I left the vets after leaving home at 2pm).

Blaze is doing well, she's settled into motherhood quite naturally and given that she had a section she has accepted the pups wonderfully, licking and cleaning all of them even the tiny one which can't help but give us more confidence that he is doing ok.

All that is left to say is a big thankyou to everyone for their well wishes, especially to Sadie who was in constant contact and Jac who thought nothing of offering to drive all the way down to Chesterfield just to help me as I was on my own, and who was on the other end of the phone with sound advice for hours. Also to Geoff and Hazel who were only a phone call away as Mum rang to ask for a bigger box that I could pick up on my way back (the bitches kept climbing out of mine).

Given the topics on K9 recently that have given whippet racers a bad reputation, well here's one that shows that although we can all whine and moan at times when it comes to our dogs, the love and consideration shown by everyone on here just goes to prove what a great bunch of people you all are, that would do anything to help, not just your own dogs but other peoples too :huggles: .

Must dash now - next feed is due, and my shift began at 6am, when will it end ? Who cares  .

So please the little dog is coming along

plenty pics of them
