Poor wee man,,hope he's eating soon,,hes in the best place,,get sleep,,as looking after a wee dog whos been through the wars is hard,,,when you get him home again,,he will not be as sore,,might even look like smatie again,,,gives you a lift,,you need these lifts,,and you will get through the hard days,,when the dog thinks hes fine and wont let you put a bag over the bandage,,or tries to jump on sofa,,and cries a bit as he cant,,,long road ahead,,but your wee dog will make it and be 100% nutter very soon,,these wee dogs made of tough stuff,,he will be running around in a few months,,maybe sooner,,my 2 were,,heart in mouth times a lot,,good luck
 
Stay strong and get some sleep because I expect you will want to stay up with Smartie when he's home :huggles:

I'm glad to hear he is improving but I'm sure you won't rush to bring him home until he is stablised and eating again, bless him. But I know it's so hard when they're away from home :(

Spoke with vet last night Smartie is much more settled, on lower pain relief but it's working, had a wee and poo!! (hadn't had one since last week), seems happier in himself, taking medication in tablet form, taking fluids and food though by syringe!, having kennel round this am so may be home later today x fingers crossed :luck:
 
So sorry to hear about Smartie's injury. When Max shattered his leg in 2008 and had a load of metal work put in we had him on diazepam and rimadyl for quite a while to help with the pain. When he developed bone cancer a year later we had him on vetageasic (sp) which you can inject at home - that helped with the pain quite well for a while.

Hope he is soon back with you and healing well. :thumbsup:
 
Pete my other dog broke his leg 4 years ago but lower down so the joint wasn't involved but still had to have two operations numerous trips to the vet and curtailing off exercise and confined to basket or lead but now he is walking and running he gets the odd very rare twinge but hasn't stopped him doing anything, his brother has made more of a mess of it!!, but we hope will make a full recovery as long as he is happy that's the main thing, thanks for all the concern will keep everyone up dated i have posted pic of Smartie and one of his brother pete with and without bandages!!

Rang vets to find out what's happening as 2.30 heard nothing, message was he was still not eating or drinking having to syringe feed him, I am going to ring later to find out how strong my little man is :wub: , if he would do better at home with us, or if he has just given up :(
 
I'm sorry things aren't sounding more positive. Sending all my best wishes for your boy to get through this and be home where he belongs very soon :(
 
Spoke with vet, Smarties bandage off and leg checked all seems good, pain controlled, if like this over night can come home tomorrow! Yipee, though we will have to syringe feed him until he can be coaxed around but vet thinks he will do better at home if pain can be managed, they think he reacted badly to the drugs. He was sat in his cage watching the world go by x

that does sound so much more positive for you all.....fingers crossed he can come home tomorrow. I truly hope it was a bad reaction, and hes on the road

to recovery.... :luck: :luck: :luck: Im sure that once hes home, he will be coaxed to eat, and he will be happier with you all at home.

:)) :luck: :luck: Fingers crossed that you will be able to have him home. If his pain is managed then maybe, in his home environment, he will feel secure enough to start eating again. I stand by what I said in a very early post, the reactions to General Anaesthetics can vary wildly, pain management aside. Hope Smartie will soon be back with you and feelling happier :luck: x
 
Have to ring vets at 9.30 see how he is and I hope so much he can come home, it's been a roller coaster of emotions xxx, will keep you posted x

Great news! :D Hope all goes well with Smarties recovery from now on and especially that he starts eating again once he's back home with you. :huggles:
